Oh yeah.
I think that it was just plain stupid and mean, because of how they should’ve handled it far better than they did.
Is it too much to ask for that they handle such things in a more mature way?

I hadn’t thought of it quite like that, but I will say that it does now seem kinda cruel for them to have handled it like this.
I mean, it was pretty obvious that at least Marble Pie had some affection for Big Mac, and they couldn’t handled it better than they did, with it maybe just not working out or something, but to just make this scene was just plain mean.

100% true.
The first time I saw it was the same as all the following - “Wh- How- What is this scene supposed to exist for?”. It is outright cruel, improper and tough whichever context it might’ve had. And somebody in studio thought it will fit so well into happy holiday song(!), just between the words! And everybody fucking approved it!
Sometimes… I just can’t.

@chubbyninja89
It sure is. Any other mare would’ve have Big Mac to begin with. Cheerliee would’ve had him if it wasn’t for the Hearts & Hooves Day debacle. And, of course, any mare who’s too shy to be with him. Especially Fluttershy, but especially Marble Pie.

Yeah, I just wish they would’ve not be so, well, cowardly in the show.
They could’ve done any number of things and made it work out, but honestly, I just feel like the whole SugarMac angle was just thrown in there just to appease some soccer mom or something, as it was just added in out of nowhere.

I agree with you.
The way they handled this whole thing was really stupid.
Not only did they have a chance to deal with all of what you said but do it in such a way that it could get not only kids but even adults to kind of think about this sort of stuff.
And I wouldn’t mind the whole SugarMac as a ship if it was handled better, you know, actually have some interactions between Big Mac and Sugar Belle and not just thrown in out of the blue in a single episode before they actually meet and such.
I just don’t understand why they either couldn’t have just come out and said that the Pies and Apples weren’t related by blood or just had some actual interactions between Big Mac and Sugar Belle and do it properly.

This is still, if not the worst scene in the whole franchise, the scene that enrages me whenever I see it. If it had been followed up with Big Mac giving Marble a gift to show he still cares about her as a friend, it would’ve been fine. But as it is, what purpose does it serve besides being a “fuck you” to MarbleMac shippers (and poor Marble herself)? It’s just a cruel joke at the expense of a character and her fans in a show that’s supposed to be teaching kids about friendship and kindness. And then Big Mac just leaves Marble and Cheerilee in the dirt for the rest of the series. No female friends anymore when you have a fiancee/wife I guess. Great lesson for the kids.
I didn’t even ship MarbleMac originally FFS. Now I do out of solidarity because I know what it’s like to be (figuratively) kicked in the teeth as a shipper.

At least Marble Pie moved on and got her own chance for a happy ending in IDW Season 10’s Issue #99.

I’ll just go ahead and say it.
SugarMac was a really dumb ship (to say the least), mainly because it was just thrown in out of nowhere and all because Hasbro couldn’t bring themselves to just say that the Pies and Apples weren’t related by any amount that would matter.
I just think that for as much as they tried with the show, they did also drop the ball at times.
And I have the right to feel this way about this dumb ship, so don’t go be hypocrites and try to silence me.
