Considering that these three were more familiar then Grogar, unsurprising.
And ignoring that Grogar had a bigger connection to Equestria and it’s history than the three other villains.
Misty and Sprout both have a bigger connection to the new mane 5. Misty was seen interacting with them and Sprout was childhood friends with Sunny and Hitch before starting a war, destroying Sunny’s old lighthouse, and nearly killing Sunny. Opaline hasn’t confronted the mane 5 directly at all. Shouldn’t Misty betray Opaline and become the true villain of G5 because she’s more familiar? Because that would suck.

Oh boy after this comment, I will unsub especially because of the other comments in this thread and I have debated this for so long but I will say this.
Discord has been testing twilight throughout the series so it doesn’t break or destroy his character, he made a mistake trying to help a friend rule a country. Discord saw himself as a safety net. The other characters called him out for his actions and he put himself in harm’s way to free starlight to make up for it.
The original Grogar was kinda boring, I prefer final villains who we spent time with as the final antagonist. The trio are responsible for their own choices, they were released from stone in the last issue of the idw comics so chill…

Went through 1000 revisions.
They must’ve really struggled. Especially since the original plan was to kill off Celestia, Luna, and Discord, but Hasbro said no, probably because of The popularity of the Fluttercord ship and the popularity of the princesses.

Does NOT apply to the uploader adding several to a dozen tags after originally uploading with minimum to bare tagging.

Explorer in Training
You can hate or love the Season 9 ending all you want. But this image was clearly meant to be a wholesome nice place to celebrate this episode’s anniversary. This is a place meant for nostalgic sentimental feelings.
Not for having debates on its quality. You can have that in the forums. Maybe here people just want to feel good. If you don’t like it then you can just hide this picture.

On that note:
While it’s admittedly stupid, it was gonna be expected, considering:
  1. Frenemies focused on them.
  2. Grogar didn’t do anything.
    &
  3. The not so subtle foreshadowings throughout that season.
If it was the real Grogar getting drained, the reputation of those three would suffer, combined with Grogar getting a never live it down moment.
Though, Discord would get spared, though not by much.
