According to the Mythbusters yes and no.

Just put the lifesavers at the bottom and everything’ll be ok.
As for the movie…Billy Zane was the most entertainment I got out of it, given he’s the only actor who’s aware of how terrible the script was, and just delves right into the ham.
You’re not the only one.
Just like the guys who made the titanic, they were engineers, just not very good ones. :P
Oh.
Well, maybe they weren’t engineers.
Mythbusters actually looked at this (with James Cameron no less). Long story short, if they put their life jacket under the door it would have provided enough buoyant force to hold their 80% of their bodies above water. This would have kept them alive long enough to get rescued.
Yes, but would the buoyancy of the door be enough to keep both of them afloat? I haven’t seen Titanic in a while, so I don’t remember how big it was.
I think it needs more explosions
…And then an octopus saves this ship.
Wouldn’t have known about this nugget of joy if Nostalgia Critic hadn’t reviewed it.
Struck a berg at 11:40pm on April 14th but sank at 2:20am of April 15th
why must you open old feels.
Titanic sank on April 14, 1912 (so today’s the anniversary).
It is. Very much so, in fact.
I think this is pretty much more because today/tomorrow is the 101th Aniversary of the sinking
the movie is, but the actual Story is every bit as awesome.
