I don’t see TYT as annoying at all, she’s a precious bean that must be protected and loved.
She’s just an extravert, and is a friend (good, not evil, not ill like random people sometimes say which got tiring to hear).

Also, Pinkie Pie and many other characters in many franchises are very active and beloved, tbh. It’s a cartoon, it’s not supposed to be like IRL. Of course IRL being wary of other people makes sense.

I would say, per episode of MYM Chapter 2 and TYT, there is almost an exact same balance of Hyper and Calm Izzy. Like in the Sleepover and Ad-mare-er, she was all over the place for the majority of each episode, and her calmer side showed when she got sad. In Izzy Does It she does seem to be all over the place all the time (mostly due to stress), which isn’t too different from, say, Dumpster Diving.
Now, looking around a bit, her T.U.E.S.Day episode had some of that same feel as the Sleepover, just that her calmer self was toward the beginning of the episode. In One Trick Pony she was excited to help, but she wasn’t over the top… hm… Is she only this bad when it is an Izzy focused episode…?

Well, one thing’s for sure, it isn’t only that it may be different writing (teams), nor the length of the different mediums, but the fact it is a different format. With the 2D you can do all manner of outlandish motions which don’t always work in 3D, and that can limit Izzy’s madness which people like. And some people just love the 3D since SFM ponies for odd reasons.

I mean, at this point, it might just be arguing semantics, but I don’t quite agree with that last point - I think the slower pace and less goofy tone of MYM (and hell, ANG and the comics, though I know you didn’t bring that up) allows her to display the softer, more sentimental side to her character, and develop pathos that way. So just in that regard, I would argue that she’s better written in those than in TYT.

Some scenes I specifically have in mind are the campfire scene in ANG, Izzy reminiscing on her past in Bridlewood after the slumber party appears to be a failure in C2E6, and the scene in the preview for Issue 9 (I believe) where Izzy mentions there are some things more important than magic. It may not be that much, but I think it’s enough.

TYT, by its nature, kind of flattens side while amping up her goofy side, which I believe is a valid approach, and I stand by that (even if I am in the minority).

I guess what I’m arguing is that both portrayals of Izzy accurately represent the congruent whole of her character, and so I agree with the meta-argument that she is the same character between MYM and TYT. I have said that before and I am willing to stand by that. However, where I disagree is in the assertion that her writing is exactly the same between the two, and that any differences only appear by virtue of external forces within the series, with my counterargument already detailed above.

Another thing I would mention is that due to TYT being more energetic and frenetically paced (an issue of runtime, I would imagine), Izzy seems slightly more excitable and therefore more liable to miss small cues that she would pick up on in those other series - but it’s very slight, to the point where sometimes I’m not sure that there is an actual difference, but rather it’s just an artifact of the differing tone and pacing of the respective series, and how I process them (which is why this was not included with the argument above).

What mean is that Izzy only isn’t annoying in MYM because it focuses on different, bigger, conflicts such that, despite having the same personality and flaws it in TYT the consequences are overlooked, not because she’s more mature/better written in MYM.

Even if Tell Your Tale has different writing than Make Your Mark and is more wackier, I still think there should be some leverage in handling her and not making her either too childish or obnoxious. With that said, I don’t find her that annoying in TYT but I do prefer her in MYM.

I mean, I get what you’re saying about her being the same (I agree, to an extent - like Twiny said below, the differing formats of the series lead to different aspects being emphasized), but I’m not sure I understand what you mean by “consequences”.

In either writing style, I really love Izzy. However, I’m not going to try and pretend that I don’t like her ANG/MYM writing better.

I wouldn’t say annoying but yeah tyt izzy is almost completely different to movie and mym izzy

The problem with this particular episode is nearly everyone in Maretime Bay behaved like jerks.

Unfortunately I have to agree with this too. I think Izzy in TYT suffers the same problem as any comic relief from movie and other media. Having them do funny things too many times kind of hurts them.

Agree agree!!

It’s cuz of the writing styles of the show. TyT is a lot more comedic focused and is faster paced cuz of the limited run time then MyM. Which means TyT Izzy has to be Non-Stop most of the time for the lols. While in MyM she gets to have more time to “breathe” so to speak.

For a lot of times in tyt she’s annoying sadly but in that episode she was actually more sweet than usual. But maybe cuz I’m a sucker for valentines day
