Well, unless you were Roman, in which case it was a surname from their time that pretty much could be translated to “person from Gaul,” a region that is now most of Central Europe.
It’s probably from there that the G4 team got the name Gallus, actually, likely from just Googling male names that start with G (as per the established tradition for griffons) and picked it as the first one that seemed to fit the character…but obviously I can’t definitively confirm that.
Point being, though, the whole “rooster” translation of “Gallus” isn’t the ONLY meaning it has. ;)

I imagine this is like the griffon version of having your voice crack, and thus highly embarrassing whenever a griff accidentally lets slip a “bawk.” :P
