You’re implying Spike gets paid.
He doesn’t, anything he gets is part of Twilight’s payment for running a library.
(Someone should make a .gif of that scene with a “[cries internally]” caption.)
…Not a fan of hers?

I can see Just for Sidekicks and Owls Well that Ends Well, and I can probably swing, if disagree with, Its About Time, but Party of One he just repeated what Pinkie told him to say, and Secret of My Excess was all about him taking the high road against his own species. Frankly though Spike I have never seen Spike act any worse than the ponies he hangs out with most frequently, which makes sense since this is a moral based show.
He’s the most recurring male character. It’s interesting to see how the show portrays him.
Besides, Theocrass wanted an answer and I gave it. The so-called “over-analyzing” can stop right there.
Seriously, why Spike is the most overanalysed character?
Just for Sidekicks
Secret of My Excess
Owls Well That Ends Well
Party of One
It’s About Time
In each episode, Spike go for the most self-serving act without thought for consequence or ethics. Usually I accept this as part of him being young and he learns a lesson. Yet the cycle repeats with a few altered components.
Now I try to picture how Spike would react to someone making eyes at his crush. This comic seems to fit that pattern. Problem is, I can’t find it funny because it’s both mean-spirited and no one comes away the better for it. Spike’s behavior is despicable and I’m amazed at how the comic writers made me sympathize with Hayseed’s growth from caricature to a pretty likable pony. I feel bad for him.
I hope the comic writers could expand on this down the road and maybe offer a happier ending. Hook Hayseed up with another pony.
Based on … what, exactly?
I feel that while it is kinda funny, it’s too mean-spirited for the show.
Spike is never worried about taking the low road. He knows any consequences are Future Spikes problems, not his.
Unfortunately, I could see Spike doing this in the show. He doesn’t have a reputation for taking the high road.
Well spike improved too. The Secret of My excess is self-explanatory.
I know that hayseed went through a lot of changes though, but spike didn’t know about that.
But yeah, these comics aren’t by the writers of the show, so you can pick and choose whether or not they’re canon (I believe that the writers said that). So that explains spike’s dick move.
