You know what? I think I can expand on the Mordecai & Twilight connection.
Benson & Rarity - both have experience running/managing a business, they are also willing to give/sacrifice what they have for their friends.
And they have a pet cat.
and that mordicai and twilight are both the main characters too.
Pops & Fluttershy - both tend to be the nicest person in their respective cast. Both also have stage fright: Dizzy, Filli Vanilli.
I’m pretty sure there’s a bit more to these two, but I just can’t articulate. I guess the other thing they have in common is that they might say stuff that are unhelpful or unintentionally unpleasant?

Oh yeah, muscle man and rainbow dash are both pranksters.
