As do I.
>losing my temper
I’m not actually angry. Arrogant? Yes.
If the Kangaroo court comment was what offended you then sorry but I did not make that comparison lightly. Rarity is guilty until proven innocent in these things despite the best evidence for her guilt being that she likes gems.
So it gives a guy a complex. I misunderstood your position and I do apologize.
Oh, wow. High and mighty. What crawled up your backside?
Wait, don’t answer that. In fact, don’t answer at all if all this does is make you lose your temper.
Look, I’m sorry you felt I was being confrontational before. I wasn’t. The part about Discord was a point for your position. I was trying to take many things into account, and not rush to judgement.
You made some good points, so why did you have to ruin it all with the “kangaroo” thing at the end?
No matter. I didn’t want to upset you. Farewell.
>Dragonshy
This is, by far, your best example.
But stealing from a dragon (who stole what he had to begin with) and charming him to leave does not translate to being a gold digger with a pony who she showed actual romantic interest in.
Especially since this was just a filler scene to pad out the run time.
>Secret of My Excess
Look up “Secret of My Excess” and “twitter”. The writer explains that manipulation was not his intent. So that is wrong
>Just for Sidekicks
She gave Spike her most valuable gem, not to mention that it was the centerpiece gem and there was a selection of even smaller gems on her dress to give if she were trying to short him.
And this is another filler scene done by a writer who thus far has displayed difficulty with Rarity’s character.
See Sleepless in Ponyville.
And none of these would actually make her a gold digger by the definition I gave, nor do they defeat the evidence I put forth, nor does it actually do much to prove that she was only interested in Blueblood’s money.
She can find her own gems afterall so arguing “gem lust” is a little silly. Gems were never on her mind with Blueblood.
And Discord’s magic rock pulled a hypnosis light on her, that’s why she went for it.
Go try the Kangaroo court bs somewhere else
Dragonshy. Just for Sidekicks. Secret of my Excess.
Of course, that doesn’t explain why she turned greedy when discorded.
Maybe it’s not the actual worth, but the beauty of an object that attracts her.
It was shallow yes. But being shallow is not the same thing as being a gold digger.
Rarity thinking that a prince would be nice and well mannered is characteristic naivety for her.
Ultimately, there’s nothing wrong with her behaviour really. When she met him she was concerned with not looking desperate, when he was initially not well mannered she assured herself that she just needed to be patient, and when he wasn’t she disliked him.
Everything prior to that was played out like a romance novel.
So really, the only evidence that she’s a gold digger (which I define as caring MORE about the money than the man) is that he was wealthy.
And she’s shown interest in a poor hippy in the comic.
So what is there really?
@Ertinax
Well, that is precisely why it didnt work out for her. Because it isn’t taken for granted.
Perhaps because the “Prince Charming fantasy” is itself something no longer taken for granted.
If the “beautiful princess fantasy” was subverted by the princess being loathsome or ugly and the Prince immediately being repulsed and not kissing her - or wanting anything to do with her - it would be a “subversion” but there would be social commentary to it, as well.
Also, a small mushroom should have told Rarity: The Prince you’re looking for is in another castle.
Well, Rarity showed a bit of a gold-digging side even before this episode.
Some people believe marrying someone to become a princess is shallow. We can safely assume that Rarity had absolutely no idea about his personality.
Some people find “he’s just a dck” unsatifactory an explanation.
There’s more I’m sure. Me? I think she acted kinda shallow, and he was a massive dck.
Oh, and what SpacePaladin said. That, too.
Because taking things at face value is the easy way. Sometimes it’s fun to screw with the obvious.
Why is the notion that it is just a subversion of the romantic Prince Charming fantasy so hard to accept?
Why does every action Rarity takes need to be scrutinized when he writer’s intent is so obvious?
Something like that.
King Julian type of ass?
