I’m sure I’m not the first person to come up with this, but I have a little headcanon about how human-sounding names are not normal or usual for ponies. Naming a foal something like “John” is pretty much the same as naming a human child “Rainbow”. It will get them bullied.

Blueblood doesn’t care, though. He’d insist such names are perceived differently when it’s someone of a higher status. Twilight would still reject his every name suggestion for their daughter, because, come on, Vladimir, even you go by a nickname, “Prince”, and you’re not even Prince.

But, on the condition of the baby getting her father’s name as a middle name and her family name, Twilight would eventually budge. Whitney, sure. They could use something like “White” for short.
