Background Pony #AAD8
@Trickquestion
This is what makes Gilda different from all the other “old best friend turns out to an evil jerk” characters, because Gilda actually does seem to genuinely want to spend time with an old friend, alone, without being with anyone else but her. Normally, these type of characters will encourage the old friend to spend time with the current one together or the old friend invokes this but, that did not happen with Gilda and Rainbow Dash. Rainbow clearly wanted to spend time with Gilda more than Pinkie Pie, but Rainbow was more lenient with Pinkie’s involvement. Although Rainbow’s response is usually, “Sure, alright, you can tag along if you can.” rather than “You should totally spend time with me and Gilda!” when answering Pinkie Pie, Dash still showed the sign that she would rather spend more time with Gilda.

Gilda does not get rid of Pinkie Pie in the same the other characters did to their rival, which is getting rid of her AFTER Dash set them up to spend time together. Dash didn’t even bother to try to get them together, the only thing she did was appreciate Pinkie’s gesture to spend time with her. Gilda only wants Pinkie to go away because she really is interrupting her time with Rainbow Dash. In a way Pinkie Pie is in the wrong at the first few times. I would’ve suggested the same thing to her as Twilight Sparkle said about just leave Gilda alone with Rainbow for the day before trying to butt in on their bonding time and if Gilda is still being a jerk after Rainbow Dash tries to get them together, then she should start worrying.

Basically if Gilda did any of those other things that usually come with this kind of story, I doubt that the fans would actually sympathized with her and want her to be good after all of that.

I’m more interested in how Dashfans could confidently claim that the writers were simply “out to get Dash” but never suffer a similar rationale with any other character.

To me she came across more clingy and possessive, and a some of her actions (begrudgingly singing the flight camp song) indicated she wanted Dash’s approval, supported by the fact you could visibly see her restraining herself when Dash is around. If anything, I see it the other way around; Dash hurt Gilda (completely unintentionally, mind you) by not seeing the signs and understanding how Gilda felt about her.

But to each their own.

To be fair, i never liked the way Gilda treated Dash, it didn’t look like a friendship, i could sense that she wasn’t very friendly and was arrogant and abusive.
I had to cut bonds with friends of mine that used to act like that to me, so i can see why Dash would do that.

I could see Dash still hanging with Gilda, occasionally. She should just keep her spaced away from her other friends.

You know, this episode never sat quite right with me.

Pinkie gets to see Dash all the time, while Gilda could only visit for so long. If she’d just pissed off and let Dash and Gilda hang out, Gilda probably wouldn’t have bullied anyone seeing as she’d be with Dash.

It also strikes me as odd that the Element of Loyalty would immidiatly cut ties with an old friend. Not inconceivable, but they could have used a longer scene to make it comes across as less… clumsy, I wanna say.
