Could have sworn they actually confirmed that the sun and moon is the same size as the ones in real life pretty much.
I think she decided to send her to the moon when she decided its more punishment due to NMM/Luna lost a 1000 years of her life due to being stuck on the moon.
So it makes sense too.
It wasn’t much long after the stars made the Mare In The Moon disappear from the moon.
I bet Celestia was caught off guard so badly with NMM popping up in front of her and the fact NMM found her so fast.
She must have been AWAKE while on(or apparently IN) the moon and aware whats going on if that happened.

Actually, evidence shows that she wouldn’t have and this was all a big batman gambit. Had Twilight known this, the Elements might not’ve awoken without the genuine Friendship she formed with the Mane Five.
Based on this,on how those stars acted in freeing NMM in episode 1, and of course how it takes a pony to raise the sun in a geocentric system, I think it’s safe to say that FiM’s sun is nowhere near the same as the colossal ball of nuclear hellfire and gravity that exists in our universe. Celestia probably wouldn’t even need magic to survive in or on it.

I always thought Celestia was testing Twilight, and that’s why she never really helps her defeat any of the villains. But I may be wrong.
