That is a myth, and it has actually been busted. The internal pressure caused by sneezing is not even close to high enough to cause the eyeballs to pop out of the skull.
 
Also, sneezing with eyes open can happen (it’s happened to me, once or twice in my life), it just doesn’t happen very often due to a natural reflex. But try really hard and you can override the reflex (alternatively, being caught completely by surprise with a sneeze can do it too).
 
It’s also possible to safely stop someone from sneezing. One of the most effective - but also annoying - methods is to wait until you can see that they are building up a good sneeze. When they’re doing the whole “Ah….ahhhh….AHHHH…” bit, you do a fake, over-the-top impression of them. Believe me, it does works at stopping their sneeze most of the time. It’ll also royally piss them off in most cases though, that you deprived them of their sneeze. (My dad loves to pull that piece of crap on me all the time, it always works and it’s annoying as hell!)

Or your eardrums go flying. You try to hold in a sneeze and something will end up rupturing, though. Also eyes close automatically when sneezing to keep them from popping out.
