Not really. Has Twilight actually applied sink-or-swim the crystals wouldn’t have existed to begin with since the ponies could have just simply have a faster time letting out their frustrations…forcing the survivors and smarties to learn the hard painful way that maybe repeating the events with the founders of Equestria was a terrible idea.

Spider-Ham puts it at his best: “Miles, the hardest thing about this job is… you can’t always save everybody.”

The crystals are technically speaking an antithesis of self-reliance: is essentially putting a central control to force others to get along or else, and if someone with terrible ideas survive and pass on those terrible ideas from generation to generation, well… Danger. Especially because since the crystals punish pretty much everybody, it’s way easier to shift the blame into someone else. Has the crystal at the very least just punish only guilty parties, then the rest of ponies now can single out guilty parties from innocents, not ideal but at least it’s less likely to build resentment among innocents.

So that’s how Equestria tore itself apart and became G5.

And Twilight managed to become a realized happy mare ever after and people started to become much more self-reliant…or they died.

Well, sometimes is sink-or-swim so it’s still a win.
