Eh. I don’t think it would ruin it.
Bullshit son. That was my fuckin’ era and I never felt shit for any of the characters in any of those cartoons. Don’t let nostalgia inflate shit in your mind. I wouldn’t be watching a show called “my little pony: friendship is magic” at 25 fucking years old if it wasn’t exceptional.
You’ve mentioned ReBoot… sad that the show was never completed. It was awesome!
But there IS nothing exceptional about this cartoon, 15-20 years ago it would have been lost in the shuffle of stuff like Gargoyles, Animaniacs, ReBoot, Ren and Stimpy, Rugrats, and other shows of the same quality level. The only reason it seems so exceptional is because shows that sell toys to girls are typically pastel-coated crap, with rare exceptions like She-Ra.
@Background Pony
“The writers are past the point of getting the benefit of the doubt. It’s on them to prove EQG has any value to the fans, and so far they have not.” Sounds pretty demanding to me.
And what’s worse is that they are falling back on the “it’s for little girls, what did you expect?” argument. Apparently, according to these folks there is nothing exceptional about FiM after all, and we’ve all just been pretending it’s legitimately good to hide the fact that we have low enough standards to watch a girly cartoon.
It’s not about owing us something, it’s about proving they are indeed decent writers.
It’s funny how people confuse “expecting quality” and “demanding quality”.
It might be that I just find pieces of crap amusing.
Eh, the Japanese make just as much crap as Americans do. I wouldn’t expect them to be able to make something like, say, Daria.
@bboifatz
They don’t have to prove anything to us. They owe us nothing. If you like it, great, go ahead and watch it, if you don’t, don’t. It’s as simple as that.
They have also let us down before. I think we can be forgiven for not trusting them to make such a concept as stupid as moving it to a generic high school setting work, especially when it already looks terrible.

I normally despise change myself, and i admit, most changes that happen nowadays are sh-. But this might not be as bad as some people make it out to be. I understand the reasons for all the hate on “High School Drama” type of overdone cliche. But the thing that made me somewhat tolerant to these type of things are the amounts of “slice of life” anime I’ve watched in the past. Though, only the Japanese seem to be able to get these high school drama things right.
It’s the usual fear of change that’s causing our little bronies to act out like this. I have faith, since the writers are the same, and they’ve managed to spin straw into gold before.
And I thought I was the only one who doesn’t have much problems with this.
Several fanfics.
I’m not against doing something different from Faust if it’s for the right reasons. Like, for example, a lot of us wanted expanded roles for male characters, which to my knowledge Faust wasn’t terribly interested in doing. Love interests could be an interesting story element too, if they occur naturally as part of character development.
However, I think most pod Hasbro’s changed have been for the sake PhD making the toys more profitable and making the brand more accessible to the target audience. These changes are being done carelessly, and the show has suffered for it.
