I understand parents concern, but not having her exist just makes it alot more worse, kids need to know there are other kids and adults different than them and that’s fine. I’m going to go on a limb here and say these were probably the same parents who didn’t like Beavis and butthead, South park, family guy, the simpsons, eminem, NWA, Marilyn manson, ect.

Her original voice sounded like a down syndrome person. Should be on YouTube still. Parents were upset, bc she sounded as if they were making fun of mentally handicapped kids. so they changed it to something cuter. Which upset the fans for giving in.
Objectively the first was kinda bad. Wasn’t until episode 100 she got a voice again.
There was a period they were going to scrap her altogether. Iirc.

ON THIS DAY IN PONY HISTORY

January 18th, 2014
After Derpy’s first speaking role in “The Last Roundup” caused some controversy, she all but disappeared from the show. Bronies feared she was gone for good when she was completely absent in Season 4.
Then, the episode “Rainbow Falls” aired. After Rainbow Dash faked being injured to avoid having to choose between competing for Ponyville or for Cloudsdale in the upcoming Equestria Games, Fluttershy said they had found a replacement. And who walked onto the room as Rainbow Dash’s replacement?

Derpy!

And this wasn’t a quick blink-and-you-miss-it cameo…she was front and center! And she continued to play a significant role for the rest of the episode.
Needless to say, the fandom went batshit crazy at Derpy’s return.
On top of that, Mike Vogel (at that time, vice-president of development for Hasbro Pictures) sent out this tweet:
Derpy was back for good!

I noticed that the stream on these recordings are sometimes a bit slower than the comments. Sometimes the difference is more than several seconds.
Also Derpy’s return was strongly hinted at a couple of days before the episode, so there were some stray “Derpy” comments throughout the stream as fans tried to guess when she’d appear.
