Good what?
It doesn’t mean anything if it’s super vague.
Good
Of course giving the McClellan the job of leading the Army of the Potomac, pretty much guaranteed that outcome.
Sherman OTHO, was a war criminal, who didn’t think twice about waging war on otherwise innocent Civilians.
So Grant actually was a pretty decent Soldier compared to him.

@Ichijoe
In all likelihood Grant wasn’t drunk at the time. There’s only really strong evidence of him being drunk when he was deployed to the Pacific Northwest after the Mexican-American War. There he got to drinking too much with some other officers or something, and was coerced to resign.
He tried to live out as best he can in Oregon with some fellow officers but he’s a man that attracts the worse of misfortune and he was forced to claw his way back home literally he debt. He had to be bailed out by Sherman in San Francisco (or I think it was Sherman).
By the damage of that retirement of post had been done, and rumors of him drinking persisted. Newspapers at the time loved to claim he was as drunk as General Sherman was insane as fuck.
But Grant is one of those incredibly interesting characters. He tried really, really hard at every adventure he made. He was committed to work to his success. But he was just an unlucky man through and through. But dammit, the bastard kept trying and going, it’s great. But after becoming a hero of the Civil War and one of the most popular presidents of his time (revered by both Union and Confederate veterans) he couldn’t quite escape his misfortunes, and his writing of and publishing of his autobiography was what saved him in the end; until throat cancer took him before he could really enjoy the comfort he wrought from it.
And really, I’d consider him the best Republican president after Lincoln; all things considered.
There’s no picture of Robert E. Lee.
Maybe you should realize I graduated high school over 20 years ago, kid.
Maybe you should pay at least that much attention in School.
I’ll give you that one – I should have recognized the guy who became president. But after a while, bearded dudes in uniform all start to look alike.
