@Facade
hmm.. No DLCs…. Um… Gotta check which perks you can take.
in general: prepare to put more points into survival.
Make sure to carry at least 3 doctor’s bags or other limb healers.
since you’re going melee/unarmed, ammo having weight isn’t gonna have much of an impact.
BEWARE of deathclaws and especially cazadores: your companions stay dead in HC mode. I kinda feel responsible for keeping them alive as a result.
Campfires are your friend, remember to regularly hunt geckos and cook their meat before eating it.
Carry a supply of water, cooked food and antivenom (~3-4 each)
I recommend getting Rad Child (70 survival). High requirement, but you’ll only need healing items if you’re in real big trouble rasher than wasting them on healing yourself after a fight. Usually you’ll have regenerated back to full health during a fast travel after the fight.
Going melee on your first hardcore playthrough… Could get difficult, but it should be doable.
@Facade
It’s a glitch. M5 implant is an implant you can get in Old World Blues for, I think +20% sneak speed. F***in’ expensive but worth it! In the aforementioned perk combo you’ll sneak at running speed. Who needs Chinese stealth armor anyway… :D
@Juggernaut470
On my energy weap build: toughness etc= 13 DT when naked, 40 DT with elite riot gear (22 DT, 25 pounds) 35ish DT in light armor (and if i’m fighting deathclaws: chems for +6DT, 85 DR +25%DAM)
Higher if I had taken Stonewall and/or Hit the deck!
@Facade
Hmmm. I think it’s only __1 Agi. you can thus have a starting agi of 8 ( implant __ S.frame). Because Tunnel Runner + Silent Running + Travel light + Implant M5 = “screw sniping / silenced pistol, I have a mantis gauntlet”.
It also allows you to jump a bit farther sure to a glitch when uncrouching. Allowing you to pounce (extra style points for deathclaw gauntlet: kung fu of the deathclaw :D)
@Facade
Yeah, and with your abnormaly high (by my standards) Endurance would allow you to get Admantium Skeleton (I THINK it requires 7 END… Can’t remember) would cancel out the bad side to using Small Frame.
Besides, if everything goes according to plan, you wouldn’t get hit anyway.
@Facade
Ahhh, would fit well with small frame trait. Oh and don’t worry, spiked knuckles + throwing spear work quite well, i’m trying a similar build myself.
Until now, I can whack deathclaws toe-toe if they don’t gang up in me in groups over three. Only ranged enemies that are a serious threat are brush gun / AM rifle users. Sonsabitches make me feel temped to grab the next laser rifle and fry them from a safe deterrence.
One caveat: as opposed to Sniper builds, you need to be very careful when you pick which perk. Particularly when you go to DLC areas.
@UTTFISH’S
I had an Energy Weapons build on my House playthrough… I got a Laser Rifle in Novac, never got rid of it.
But yeah, I usually maxed Guns, Sneak, Lockpick and Science asap, then delved into Melee Weapons and Explosives. IF the enemy managed to find me from how far away I was, I’d drop mines run away and watch the limbs fly. And indoors I always had a pistol handy. And knives, lots of knives.
I also enjoy being friendly with all the Factions. Maximises profits you see…
@Juggernaut470
Having a small frame according to New Vegas will (correct me if I’m wrong) give +2 AGI, but your limbs will cripple much more easily. And that would seem pretty accurate for this OC, seeing that he DOES have a smaller frame than most stallions.
@Juggernaut470
I love the laser rifle+.
Particularly because the buggy beam splitter means you do retardedly high sneak crit damage, and when not sneaking you tend to do crits so often it completely compensates for splitting up your attack damage.
And because laser already = high rate of fire, high ammo capacity, accurate, all you have to do is take straight damage perks and then decide “ooh, I think I’ll take some melee perks since my ranged is maxed out perk wise”
And I have MirrorHeart to thank for this strategy :3
Pretty much the only issue is finding a way to avoid infamy (largely a matter of personal preference)
@Facade
Sounds decent… I could probably make that on New Vegas… If it wasn’t having mini-freeze episodes every 10 seconds. But yeah, I can understand the need for a smaller figure for that.
Yeah, pretty much. XD
Do you have a Skype, Tumblr or anything? You’re a fun dude to talk with.
“those aliens are weird. Especially this one who keeps giddily babbling on about enclave pegasi being adorable and frolicking in the clouds. “
He would most likely observe it first before making any judgements.
D’aww cutesie… Wonder how he’d react to a male human (“aaah, a ghoul hellhound!” xD ) mistaking him for a mare and hugging him :3
Thank you. Very much appreciated. Off the topic, I’m going to be doing more Fallout related art in the future, primarily more OC builds.
Oh you!

What? I played as a steam mecha. :B
Okay, everything’s done. Any tips on playing through Hardcore mode?
The questions don’t matter anyway since you can just manually readjust them right afterwards.
I, sadly, do not have any of the DLCs. And what does “I ain’t given to relying on others for support” mean?

What is the M5 implant?
And goddamn! I didn’t know one could pounce!

You dudes are tempting me to try this build with different perks and see how things turn out.
Last time I had a Melee build, it involved Oh Baby! and Power Armor. Deathclaws never had a chance to begin with.
Sneaking in Power Armor!
HELL YEAH! They never see/hear me coming…
SOMEHOW…

I meant +1 AGI! To hell with typing on an iPod.
grumble

Precision over Power.
Yes, what Jugger said. Facade is simply an effeminate stallion.
