Ah, it’s a global statistic, that makes a lot more sense. Still nowhere near the tens of thousands the other guy mentioned. Not going to spend months of work to fact check, but a cursory glance at the name list on the site presented doesn’t show evidence that the motivations were due to the victim being trans.

For example, here, with nearing 5k murders where the victims sexual identity was the likely motivator since 2008.
Mind, these stats are only for countries that actually bother to to report them (which excludes… a lot), and as mentioned, only from 2008 to 2023.
“Tens of thousands” is fairly conceivable given the underreporting just for the same period, nevermind if we just go back a bit further. Plus, remember that “panic defense laws” are still very much a thing, even in the US.

There’s a difference in severity between you, a random person, holding transphobic views for a time, and a state legislator turning their views into laws that directly negatively affect the lives of thousands, if not millions of people.
