Still, I’d kill for someone to write a good fanfic either deconstructing, reconstructing, or distilling the premise. Deconstruct/parody high school cliches! Give SS and FS some actual dimension! Fill in those plot holes! Do some more interesting stuff with magic mirror dimensions!
I do love me some Catbug. I just wish Linkara would talk in a not-annoying voice every once in a while and maybe rely less on sketch comedy. I know he’s trying to be funny, but he ends up distracting people from the point or points he’s trying to make about whatever media he’s complaining about. It’s like pulling the car over every time you want to tell the passengers a story: Halfway through you just want them to get on with it, and more likely than not you’ve forgotten where they said they were going.
Don’t worry, it’s a compliment.

I don’t know whether to be insulted or not. I mean I guess they’re the only other person who knew that Malibu Comics existed, but still… That fedora…

But if she’s that much older than Twilight, why does she look like she’s the same age, both in pony and “human” forms?
Thinking about it, why does Twilight find Flash Sentry attractive if he’s an entirely different species with the same bipedal nature as Spike? Since Sunset Shimmer had been in the “human” world for so long I imagine she’d have had time to adjust, but Twilight had literally been there for less than an hour, and he barely said three words to her. Is his game that strong? Are pheromones involved?
Actually, looking at the wiki, apparently Sunset Shimmer began her studies “not long” before Twilight did. How come they never bumped into each other? Wouldn’t they have studied together? With Sunset Shimmer’s confrontational nature, wouldn’t she have gone to meet Twilight? And with Twilight’s anxiety regarding the Princess’ approval, wouldn’t she have been worried and/or jealous of her rival? Then why doesn’t she recognize Sunset when they see each other again? There’s no other pony, background or otherwise, with a mane like that.
And why doesn’t Sunset Shimmer recognize Twilight in her human form? She’s got her damn cutie mark stamped on the front of her dress, has the same mane/hair, and is the exact same color. Surely that would have been some indication that maybe this was the same pony she was running from the night before!
And why was Sunset Shimmer’s punishment community service? She blew up the front of the school! Wouldn’t someone have called the police? And how would Sunset Shimmer, Snips, or Snails know anything about bricklaying? Shouldn’t they have just made Sunset pay for a professional contractor? Why would they even have cement handy at a Fall Formal that late at night?
I can answer one, and only one, of those plot holes.
The much older (though not mentally) Sunset hitting on teenagers is incredibly creepy. She’s that kind of sick mofo.
How about an explanation for how Twilight could compete for Fall Formal or whatever if she’s not even a student? And if she is a student, how come she never went to class? Why were there only three or four staff members on campus, and how did not one teacher notice her wandering around the halls between classes?
If Twilight’s an adult, isn’t it kind of creepy for her to be crushing on teenagers? If she’s not an adult, does that mean she’s not in the same age bracket as her friends, who all have their own jobs, homes, and/or businesses? Then how can she be a librarian? If she is an adult, why did she became a teenage human girl when she stepped through the portal?
Are she and Sunset Shimmer the same age? If Sunset’s an adult, then wouldn’t it be even creepier to have been dating a 14- to 17-year-old high school student? If she and Twilight are the same age, and she was Celestia’s student before Twilight, she’d have to have been a filly at the time; Twilight became Celestia’s student the day she got her cutie mark, making her an elementary school student. If Sunset was a filly when she left Equestria, why didn’t they send a rescue team after her? Celestia had no way of knowing what was on the other side of that mirror, or if Sunset would be hurt, or worse. How could she have let that happen to a filly?
How would Sunset Shimmer know about the Elements of Harmony, which had remained undisturbed for a thousand years? How would she know more about them than Twilight? How would she know what happens to them when they’re taken to other worlds? How would she know Twilight had the Element of Magic? How did she know where Twilight kept it? Even if she knew, the portal’s only open for three days every 2.5 years, meaning the last time she could have come to Equestria was long before the Crystal Empire returned, let alone Twilight finding the elements or becoming a princess.
WHY DOES THIS MOVIE HAVE SO MANY DAMN PLOT HOLES?
Unless he spams tons of pictures shaming EG, I see no “ulterior motive”.
No no no, you misunderstand, this isn’t OP’s opinion, he’s just posting reviews from 4chan of other people who didn’t like the movie. There’s really no reason for him to do that if he didn’t have an ulterior motive.
So OP isn’t allowed to post their opinion? As someone who for the most part enjoyed the movie, that is completely unfair.

Animation I loved, especially the Magical Girl transformation scene. I wish they had gone a different route with the music, I’m fine with one or two tween pop songs, but no, they made them ALL POP. Admittedly, they were pretty catchy (that doesn’t necessarily mean good, mind you.)
While to each their own, I believe EG is worth at least one watch.
While I basically agree, I’d like to note that this “bitter dialogue” would most likely come in the form of a Villain Song.
Wait a minute- did we even get one of those!? I think we didn’t! Now I feel a bit cheated!
Or rather, cannot into delivering the promises her villains make.

Twilight just can’t catch a break when it comes to finding a spell casting nemesis of relatable power. Sombra turned out to be a mindless monster, and Sunset an unimpressive bitch.
I really just don’t understand why they couldn’t make SS a interesting villain. I mean seriously, a former student of Celestia’s?! Cool! Can we hear more about it? Maybe make her have some bitter dialogue about why she made the choices she did? Nope, sorry, she’s just gonna be some generic evil thing. And continuously hammering how “evil” she is was just painful. Think about it, how awesome would it be if instead of turning into a demon, she turned into a beautiful angel, and still had all the evil laughing / gloating? Nope, can’t have those little kids getting the wrong ideas!
