I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that playing the game the way I want to was wrong. You want to tell me how I should cook my damn meat, because I’m obviously incapable of making such an important decision myself without fucking it up.
/sarcasm
I don’t much post-game in Pokemon (which the exception of B/W & B2/W2 which are mildly enjoyable), so I’m not going to drone through a shitty main game to get to an “entertaining” post game.
Sorry my opinion doesn’t agree with yours.
>up until Black and White, I would usually stop playing the game entirely after I became the champion
That’s what you’re doing wrong. Most Pokémon players agree that the real game begins after you beat the story. It would only take a few days to become the champion, but the postgame offers months if not years worth of play time with all the challenging tasks and activities. That’s where RSE is lacking and DPP is strong, even though RSE has a better main game there isn’t much to do afterwards.
I didn’t take it as a personal attack, I just didn’t expect having an (apparently) unpopular opinion would prompt such as reaction from everyone else.
I don’t like Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum. I don’t care for the Pokemon (with a few exclusions like Leafeon and Glaceon) introduced in Gen 4, and most of the gameplay changes were common sense, like the introduction of the fairy type in the upcoming gen 6.
It did not make sense that a move like Bite would be a special-move simply because it was a Dark-type move. The changes they made in that respect seemed like common sense, and something that should’ve been done way back in Gen 1.
Additionally, FR/LG and HG/SS do not have any Pokemon that were not obtainable in the original games until after the Elite Four (or in HG/SS’s case, after the Johto League), which makes no difference to me, as up until Black and White, I would usually stop playing the game entirely after I became the champion.
I probably should be more specific from now on: I thought Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum were pretty meh.
>taking memes arrows as a personal attack
But FRLG is Gen 3, and HGSS is G4. They have the same game mechanics and Pokemon rosters as those generations and were made in the same timeline. If we get RSE remakes after the release of X&Y, they would be considered Gen 6. You didn’t like DPPt, and that’s fine. But you liked HGSS, so dismissing all of G4 as crap doesn’t make sense to me.
Heartgold & Soulsilver were remakes of games from Generation 2, like how Fire Red and Leaf Green were remakes of games from Generation 1. I enjoyed Fire Red and Soul Silver, but I would hardly call them Gen 3 or Gen 4 games, they’re remakes!
Once again I’ll reiterate:
IT’S MY OPINION THAT G4 WAS CRAP. Talk about getting shit for having a damn opinion.
>G4
>Platinum
>motherfuckin’ GS remakes
>bad
Hey! Speaking of which, that’s another thing you could say about Pokemon, but not My Little Pony.
“Generation 4 was crap.”
Dude, G4 was so forgettable, I stopped playing (and giving a shit) before I even reached Volkner.
At end of the day, it’s my opinion that G4 was crap. No amount of disputing or convincing will change that.
A psychopath (Cyrus) wants to destroy all of reality and reform it in his twisted emotionless image. And his grunts threatened to blow up a town (like suicide bombing) and did explode lakes with bombs (the explosion was felt from very far away). So he didn’t just want rule the world or make it more water/land, no he wanted a complete do over and would do anything to make it happen. He was so close to almost achieving it and destroying the universe (not just earth) especially in platinum where he tears a hole in the fabric of reality and opens a freaking portal to another hellish dimension. In my opinion, nothing in pokemon comes close to the sheer insanity of Cyrus’s plan and that’s why Gen 4 is far from forgettable. They also made a lot of awesome mythology and culture to support this in the game.
Shinies are supposed to be rare, what makes them special if you could get them left and right?
I played Black and White 2 just recently and encounter three different shiny pokemon during my play-through. So while they’re pretty elusive, it’s not impossible to encounter them.
The Underground seemed pretty pointless when playing alone and I don’t I ever even bothered with it when I played through Diamond.
I didn’t really have an opinion one way or another with the Pastoria March. So whether or not it was better than the traditional Safari Zone was irrelevant.
Generation 3 also had Fire Red & Leaf Green, so transferring between Gen II and Gen III wasn’t an issue because most (if not all) of the Generation 1 & 2 pokemon could be caught between the Generation 3 games.
Lastly, Wi-Fi battles/trading isn’t something you can credit Diamond and Pearl for, as it was a nature progression of how technology had advanced between the Gameboy Advance and the DS. No Wi-Fi in the GBA meant they had to use Link-Cables (or in the case of FR & LG, Wireless Adapters that were shipped with the games). The DS did have Wi-Fi, so any Pokemon game released on it could utilize that technology.
TL;DR: Generation 4 was no better than 3, it simply had the advantage of being released on a newer, more powerful system.
While shinies were around since gen 2, gen 3 is the only one that completely lacks any legit means of increasing the chances at obtaining them. What point of them being in the game if you’ll probably never see any?
In gen 2 breeding shinies increased the chances of hatching a shiny Pokémon up to 1/64. DPP introduced a pokéradar which gives you an opportunity at increasing your odds up to 1/200, or alternatively you can breed Pokémon from different countries to slightly increase the odds (the Masuda Method).
But gen 3 gives you nothing, you’re stuck with the base 1/8192 chance of shiny encounter and can do nothing about it unless you hack or exploit the game’s RNG system.
The DPP’s radar was one of the best new features and it created an entire following of shiny hunters who dedicate themselves to the activity of chaining shinies in tall grass, an entire new dimension of virtually endless play value. This is the kind of feature that should have become standard, and yet it never appeared again in other games.
Gen 5 is just about as bad as 3 about shinies, it only has the Masuda Method, which isn’t nearly as effective or fun. Chaining shinies was a challenging but rewarding task.
Shinies aside, there is plenty more to Gen 4. The Underground is fun enough to explore even in single player, but with a friend it’s x10 more amazing. The Pastoria Marsh is an interesting take on the classic Safari, and all the time based events are perfect (not as overwhelming as 2nd gen’s events but more interesting and varied than 3rd and 5th).
You can even transfer your gen 3 Pokémon to a gen 4 game much like you could with gen 1 to 2 games, but gen 3 can’t receive Pokémon from 2.
And don’t forget that the Wi-Fi trading and battling with entire world that DPP introduced is a revolutionary innovation that became the staple of modern Pokémon and changed how gamers approached the series up until then. You can’t deny how much gen 4 did to the franchise.
TL;DR: 4th gen is the best.
Aside from the Special/Physical split, Generation IV did not offer anything new other than some more pokemon (most of which were unnecessary evolutions to Gen I & II pokemon). Shiny Pokemon were in the game since Generation II.
While I didn’t hate Diamond & Pearl, I did find them to be the most forgettable games in the series, hence why I don’t care much for them.
Yeah I’m surprised that people found Gen 4 lacking.
I agree, I liked 4 better than 3 and 5.
I’d disagree about game mechanics of the 3rd. It redefined what was established by the previous gens from scratch but what it brought to the table was far from perfect. Gen 4 fixed and improved upon them with the special/physical split and shiny hunting, just to name a few, then came gen 5 and made 1 step forward 2 steps back with its mechanics.
I don’t get the 4th gen hate, particularly regarding DPP. It was great in just about every way, save for the story (which wasn’t terrible but not above average). Music, Pokémon, region, mechanics, it shined in all these aspects. 5th gen’s only main highlight is story and maybe graphics, everything else hardly surpasses 4th. Straightforward region, reused gen 1 Pokémon designs, annoying new features and flawed mechanics. The touch screen is wasted on the useless C-Gear whereas DPP had a whole bunch of awesome apps.
I agree. In that respect, every generation is the best at something:
Generation I had the best pokemon.
Generation II had the best world.
Generation III had the best gameplay mechanics (or at least introduced them)
Generation V had the best story.
Everyone wins!….except…Generation IV…
Well I’ll give Platinum that I found it more memorable. It just didn’t grab me personally, if you liked it then all the power to ya mate. Just not something of my taste personally.
