The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Guys, Spike was Rarity´s PIN COUCHON! If he´s fine with pins all over his butt/back, a little slap on the back of his head for being insensetive is nothing.
They showed us in the show how tough dragons are. Throw Spike and Fluttershy into a magma sea and tell me who of them would get hurt?

Yeah, Twilight gets to be the victim of slapstick alright, but when it happens to her its funny because she is the main mane character, that everyone loves, that the writers love, that is highly skilled in magic, personal pupil of the Princess and is the main element of harmony.

But when slapstick happens to Spike it ends up being mean spirited because he is basically a looser, he doesn’t have anything awesome or cool, doesn’t have friends of his own, not element of harmony, all he does grunt work of the time and being pushed around by Twilight a lot. Not to mention when Twilight gets the slapstick is either accidental or because her own fault

Twilight should get an Owned Count considered how often she’s a victim of slapstick. But the double standard of “boys can’t hit girls for any reason, but girls can hit boys for any reason” still stands. Most of the slapstick is accidental, due to the character’s carelessness, or female-on-female. The only time we really see male-on-female abuse involves Discord. Yeah.

V @RIG I guess you’re right, I tend to do that, sorry. I guess I just wanted to point out that despite him apparently being invulnerable, they’ve shown in vulnerable several times. And the whole “being a boy” thing doesn’t excuse the abuse. Guess I went overboard.

V @Candrew, even though they make it apparent that he has thick scales, we do hear him say “Ouch” a few times when the ponies hurt him. Heck, it’s implied that his spikes on the top of his head are flimsier and thus more prone to get hurt (Owl’s well that ends well/ticket master his spike get singed by fire, and droop when they get wet), and he clearly says “ow” when she hits him. The same can be said for “fall weather friends” when the ponies “volunteer” him to be their dummy. When applejack bucks him, and he falls he says ow, so it’s obvious that he still isn’t invulnerable to some pain.

And to say “because he’s a guy, it’s funnier for him to be the punching bag” is just wrong. No one should be the punching bag, whether it be a girl or boy. The physical comedy is just mean-spirited when it happens to spike. I’d understand if it was rainbow dash (as karma for being rude), or just some silly pinkie pie slapstick that wouldn’t hurt her, that would work. But to use it out on spike, who despite being cynical sometimes, is actually an okay guy, doesn’t feel right. And they just don’t use his screentime to develop his relationship with the other ponies (fluttershy and applejack) they either use it to make him be the assistant, and be the butt of their jokes. And it’s a real shame too.

^^ Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying its fair, I’m just saying the reasons I can see for why it happens that way. Every other time a major accident has happened, Twilight with the piano or Dash being injured by crashing/rock slide, they have shown the ponies having at least some physical sign of injury that lasted at least a little while.

Spike is a dragon, and as such he is designed to withstand things that would kill or severely injure ponies with ease, so it happens mostly to him.

Pain is funny, but a cartoon these days can’t get away with what they used to in the past, so they instead use the guy with the natural resistance to damage.

That plus the double standard of girls hitting boys is why he gets to be the punching bag.

Various ponies in the mane 6 get hurt a lot.

That’s not what I’m arguing about, though. I’m saying that his punching bag status is just unfair.

^^ Yes, and ended up in a wheelchair for all of a scene. Twilight got all the physical abuse in one episode out of 52, Spike gets it throughout the series. Spike gets smacked, used as a rider during the bronco buck for the Iron Pony, thrown into walls, suffered burns from Twilight’s first teleport, and that’s just the things I remember off the top of my head.

Spike gets the bulk of the physical comedy directed at him because he has thick scales. Plus, he’s the only boy around girls and while the inverse wouldn’t be true it is okay for girls to hit boys.

Those smacks Twi gave him that episode were uncalled for. She could have just zipped his mouth shut, like she did when he was talking to Trixie.
