I’ve seen true suffering and evil too.  
Most of it is a result of american infestation in other developing nations.  
And well, there’s no denying Cheney is some kind of satan or other. And the life of “decadence, comfort, and ease” just makes me MORE pissed off at the worthless excuses for human beings they are. I do little else most days than rail against how much their selfishness and industrialised burdening on the rest of the world disgusts me far more than half of what you named, precisely because it is an enabling factor and they are wantonly profiteering from those ‘otherworldly conflicts and traumatic events or slavery.’ (while at the same time they claim to be the most generous, but do nothing but throw money at the problem, to organisations that spend 80% of it on fundraising.)  
Also the only difference between this and one of the Blocs is you can get out of a US prison if you can show being jailed is ‘unconstitutional’, but it’s often ungainly slow if there is even a whiff of doubt, so good luck with that if you do wind up in prison. It’s just that they would rather plant drugs on you most times so you don’t hear about it very often, but sometimes they are very stupid and do jail you under a political offense, with a misdemeanor cover like ‘disturbing the peace.’  
I’m not even going to get into the BS thought-crimes like buying the wrong frickin’ books that have been cropping up lately, or being spied on by alphabet soup agencies for visiting the wrong sites. There is very little different between the two other than unessential materialism and ease of access to (some government pre-approved) vices.

Guys really, stop killing this, human studies101 with lyra is all about being wrong.

Yeah, the States is the worst place on the planet to live. It’s so much worse than countries with a values system that declares a raped woman is at fault because she tempted the man to do so, infanticide because your baby was the wrong gender, legal child sex trades, child soldiers, people literally starving to death in the streets while governments spend all their money on guns and tanks, perestroika, the Nanking Massacre, the Tiannamen Square Massacre, muslim extremists, The Kurdish Genocides (All five of them), corporate warfare with PMCs, rampant disease, no potable water, no medication, no education system, landmines, overpopulation, cultural stagnation, genocide, totalitatianism, slavery (Over 31 million slaves exist worldwide), or the simple fact that you would have been jailed in many countries for criticizing the government (Something someone who claims to have lived in the Soviet Bloc should know more than enough about), but the US’s right to freedom of speech allows you to have your opinion, as well as an Internet to voice it, and an economy that allows you to have a computer.
 
I’m sorry, but this whole political munchausen syndrome thing that so many people have going honestly pisses me off. It’s like “Oh boo hoo, there’s corruption in Corporate America! My iPod costs too much! The government’s putting fluoride in the tap water!” I have lived a long life and I have seen true suffering and true evil. I can honestly tell you, right here and now, that the average American doesn’t even know what suffering is. Bad stuff happens in America, really bad stuff happens in America, but it’s still the highest rung on the ladder compared to anywhere else on the planet. Your average American lives a life of decadence, comfort, and ease. The problem is, is people in this country just take things for granted. They believe that since things could be better, that automatically means they are bad as they are right now. The trouble is, is no matter how much more they receive they always want more and more.

I’m pretty sure it’s a pile of shit unless you’re wealthy enough to bribe your way to success/seclusion, but that’s just the opinion of a guy that’s lived through about half of the soviet bloc as well. Although I am quite invulnerable to disease so I don’t actually factor medical care/emergency services into my calculations no matter where I live as I never used’em. I focus primarily on how much shit costs compared to the lowest possible wage and how much the populace wants to thought police your livelihood and your belief systems. Although, for the most part each particular state I’ve lived in hasn’t given me the same reasons to hate them as the rest. I can see what tourists mean by it feeling more like separate countries than mainland Europe at times. Each one based on whether it was red or blue or what protestant sect had the most representation had pretty much their own unique interpretations of the idea of ‘being american.’ So long as you don’t say “The A Word” or mention Errbammy/Ramneigh though I found the rural Reds most tolerable of all I’ve dealt with, amusingly at odds with their internet/media/Hollywood portrayals.

There’s a running joke among those from there who join the army and compare recently ‘occupied/freed’ Iraqi and Afghani cities to Detroit.  
It’s only halfway true. Most of the buildings still stand up. But only because there was nothing of value to scrap in the supports.  
 
 
 
 
 
Similar to Paris (but without the money, lol) the inner city (roughly 2.5 miles) is where all the money is concentrated and it’s surrounded by destitute slums. (actually destitute might be a compliment)

I’m British and even I’ve heard horror stories about Detroit. Is it really all that bad?  
It can’t be as bad as people make out.

It’s actually sad that this was totally true at one point. Just goes to show you how radically things can change with time. Today, The United States and Canada are as close to perfect places to live as you can get in the world. 50 years from now, they might be in complete ruin.

Not to mention the entire city declared bankruptcy recently. They’ve been having quite a bit of economic trouble lately.
