Happens in Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn. And what happens is Ash William’s (Bruce Campbell’s character) girlfriend from the first movie becomes a deadite with a detachable head, so he puts her head in one of those table-mounted vices and prepares to chainsaw it. But she distracts him long enough to bite his hand before being chainsawed.
 
This causes his hand to become possessed, and after a rather darkly ridiculous scene where Bruce fights his hand (including breaking multiple plates over his head) he pins it to the floor with a knife and chainsaws it off at the wrist.
 
He bounces back ludicrously fast from chainsawing off his own hand.

This also reminds me of that book in The Mummy that revives Imohotep. Evelyn just takes out the book and starts to read it out loud. Rick tells her that he doesn’t think she “should be playing with books like that”. She just tells him that “no harm can come out of reading a good book”.

Now she’s gonna have to cut off that hoof and replace it with a chainsaw.

I think it’s not safe because of the whole ‘can grant wishes and allow the reader to influence the real world’. It’s less ‘the book isn’t safe’ and more ‘it’s not safe in the wrong hands/hooves’.

Why should The Neverending Story not be safe? Or is it not the The Neverending Story, but an actual, literal neverending story? In that case I could understand it.
