Huh…you’ve given an interesting outcome to the Hunter scenario…and I like it…to an extent, the question “What motivates me to kill my past self?” arises, but barring that…despite it being a time travel plot, can be extremely interesting.
 
Speaking of endurance tests, there is only one that I have ever enjoyed…or even play…Dwarf Fortress. As soon as you start, you’ve lost…just a matter of when and how spectacular it will be. P:

Of course not. When I sit down to a game, whether it’s tabletop or video, I expect that there is at least a possible solution, unless it’s made clear that it’s an endurance challenge where you’re only supposed to get as far as you can. But that’s obviously not how this is intended to be taken.
 
Edit: would you take this as a solution? Perhaps “the hunter” is an alternate or future timeline version of yourself. It learns because every time you defeat them, you still have a future timeline, which now remembers the last time you defeated the Hunter, and you’re meanwhile gaining experience and getting more powerful.
 
At some point, you have to realize this, and then the “defeat” scenario is “change whatever was causing this so that I never become the Hunter.”
 
I’m not terribly fond of time travel plots, but they’re a staple, and it fits the description pretty well.

Well, that is true though…I don’t see the “Hunter” scenario winnable at all. Or, if it is winnable, the losses are just not worth the reward.
 
The only way, seeing as it mentioned the way to defeat a Nemesis is somewhere in Equestria, is like somehow just wiping the Hunter from existence itself. Like, some time compression bullshit where she never existed in this timeline or any other timeline for that matter. But that’s some Deus Ex shit that doesn’t seem interesting or fun in the first place…
 
I also don’t see befriending as an option considering the Hunter is quite literally out for blood. Can you imagine, she has killed half my party and somehow Bonbon or Lyra is alive while the other is dead, and I suggest in their presence to “Befriend” them. They’re going to be ROYALLY pissed at me, resulting in a party break up. You never want the party to break up…for whatever reason, you have to stick together.
 
But I do wonder, considering we both don’t know how/if the Hunter can be defeated, would you still take it as a Nemesis despite that?

It’s supposed to be a game, though. With your interpretation of the wording, the “Hunter” scenario isn’t winnable.
 
A reasonable interpretation, I think, is that harmonizing and redeeming the Hunter suffices to end their storyline successfully. If nothing works, then that’s just a flaw in the design.

Thing is, I would consider that as a “defeat” on her part. Considering she is constantly learning and constantly hunting me, no matter how I seal her away or kill her, she is still coming for me and my friends.
 
I enjoy a good rival…but when that rival’s trump card is “I win…eventually, no ifs ands or buts.” It loses a lot of it’s appeal considering my friends only have one life, while she has infinite. As it says, it’s only a matter of time…
 
I would rather take on, as I said in my earlier post on this page, the other 3 nemesis at the same time over the hunter…and that’s just the hunter alone.
 
Everything has a purpose and plan, balanced and safe. I would give kudos to those that can take on the Hunter without fear, but I know when the odds are against me and I am not going to take such a risk.

But Harmony is only going to work once against the Hunter…you can NEVER use the same tactic to defeat the Hunter…you have to defeat the hunter ASAP or else you just lose. Exactly why I decided not to choose it, I may be intelligent and able to think of multiple strategies and tactics to defeat the Hunter…but I can only do it for so long before I exhaust myself of ideas…and no idea is going to work 100% of the time…
 
Not worth it, in my honest opinion…but if you can keep ahead of the Hunter’s game, then good for you. You can manage where I cannot.

Man, I wish this was updated to the most recent canon. Or just more art.
 
Anyways, if I take ALL the nemeses, I can get the mane 6, spike, and celestia, as well as the bull’s eye. It will be 9 facing 10,000 horrors, but those horrors will be facing Harmony Itself.

Hmm…gonna need a good balanced party for something such as this.
 
Nemesis: The Nightmare, The Anarchist and The Host. (Seriously, fuck “The Hunter”. An enemy that keeps on reviving and can never be beaten the same way twice while learning all your moves while slowing and inevitably assassinating all your friends…hell no!)
 
The Nightmare wont be nearly as bad if I take Celestia along, she helps counteract some of the negatives that is “The Nightmare”. It’s essentially the Grey Warden scenario (Dragon Age: Origins). I’ve dealt with this before.
 
The Anarchist would pretty much be my life now…only I would have someone to blame for my misfortune now and I’m kinda a glutton for punishment and would find it actually funny at times how Discord goes out of his way to fuck with me and my group.
 
The Host would probably be the easiest to weed out, there is always a pattern…and obvious one at that, once it’s noticed can easily at one point just randomly, sometime during the destruction of the village we were last at, and say “Ok, we gotta go back…insert excuse here.” The Guilty Party might act suspicious during this time, thus giving them away OR since we’re going back there might be a clue during the destruction of the village that will tell us who is the one behind it all.
 
This gives me a total of 6 tokens to work with.
 
 
Allies: Twilight (Inquisitive Magician), Applejack (Faithful Guardian), Celestia (Fallen Princess), Lyra and Bonbon (Quirky Bard Duo) , Pinkie Pie (Ecstatic Engineer) and lastly Zecora (Mysterious Shaman). (1 Free Ally, 5 allies for 5 tokens. 1 Left)
 
Twilight, despite Discord fucking with me, her experiments would be useful to have. Knowing Discord he would most likely screw with this, but not 100% of the time. I would get some pretty neat abilities or strengths from these…and having someone that will pretty much never leave my side is a huge boon and a load off my mind of a betrayal from her. Her magic ability makes her an incredible strong back liner.
 
Applejack will provide us with a lot of food, thus eliminating that worry (and my group requires a lot of food to sustain). The money thing is not that big of a problem seeing as the food issue is no longer one and Pinkie Pie will help cover some costs in the equipment department with her gadgets. That and I always keep a hidden personal stash of gold on hand…I never trust anyone with my money…or at least most of it. I’ll never have enough money for everything I want, but I will have enough for some. Her strength makes her an extremely strong front liner.
 
Celestia for reasons already stated, a hug is also nice too…will be important during those times one needs comfort. Food not a problem. Geographical problem is not a problem either, a challenge is always welcome. Her combat skill makes her an excellent Jack of all Trades, except she is a master of all, making her an excellent Front or Back line fighter.
 
Lyra and Bonbon, music is my passion…I work and fight better under the influence. A high moral is always important. They will be fun to keep around and might even help alleviate the Applejack problem of less money to go around with their bardic skills. Bards are also a Jack of all Trades type character, they’re alright at most forms of combat but never truly good making them great Mid-range fighters keeping everyone buffed with music.
 
Pinkie Pie also helps in the Moral department with how cheerful she is all the time. Her gadgetry will be incredibly important and again help (as mentioned before) with Applejack’s money problems. She could augment armor and weapons, or just create a different type of weapon all together that could be useful. Tools, no matter what they are, will come in handy sooner or later be it a locked door or a broken down device on the road. Who knows what you can find. Pinkie sense will be a GOD SEND to have, it will actually help a bit in dealing with Discord’s antics…but not by much. She will probably be able to give a warning to me about all those villages we’re leaving behind getting wrecked. The emergency stashes will also help in a tight spot and with Applejack’s…“problems”. Her gadgets and stuff will most likely be ranged equipment making her good in the back line of the party.
 
Zecora, those potions are gonna be so important. From explosives to healing pots, it’s gonna be so useful to have while also having someone to understand and explain what is poisonous and what is safe to eat. Discord will obviously screw around with the potion’s side effects from time to time, but it’s to be expected. He wants to have fun, not kill us. Nothing to much to worry about, also what’s tested is tested. So if I drink a pot and nothing bad happens then I know future uses of that potion will be safe for consumption. Her concoctions makes sure everyone has a ranged weapon, even if magic is exhausted. Considering she is a hermit, she will probably be very fit but not that strong…not weak but not that strong either making her a mid-back range fighter to keep the Bards or back line safe if something slips past the front line.
 
 
Factions: The Undead (1 token, 0 left)
 
To be able to call upon, what is essentially, MY OWN ARMY OF THE DEAD is beyond more useful then anything the other factions could offer. Using this power of Necromancy and the undead army I can take the fight to these other factions I am at war with when necessary. And just because I learn “minor” Necromancy doesn’t mean I couldn’t improve at it over time. I could possibly become an extremely powerful Necromancer given the time, and with Twilight she might even help train these new found powers.
 
If needed we could raid a Griffon Outpost for weapons and supplies making them essentially supply points for my party, we would have to take the long way around them when needed to avoid them but it would be more beneficial in the long run.
 
Eldrich Abominations are not exactly my idea of fun or something I want to fight…so I will most likely avoid them whenever possible. They don’t even have that much, if any, loot on them making the fight a complete waste in resources. The combat experience would be nice…but it’s just not worth it in the long run, hence - avoid.
 
The Tribes I could see befriending in the long run, they are smart and clever but aren’t evil and can probably be reasoned with. Considering the state that Equestria is in, there is a chance of running into a group of them at one point in desperate need of help. Helping them could get me into their good graces if played correctly.
 
 
So I would say I got things pretty good for me here, a nice balanced party giving me and everyone what they need when they need it. The Host will probably be Celestia, cause Discord would find that hilariously ironic. That will be an extremely difficult boss fight, while probably making Twilight useless that fight…or at least the majority.

Hm. On second thought, AJ over Pinkie Pie in the optional add-on for Story 1. The food will be handy for Celly.
 
Aw, didn’t notice that only one faction could be allied with. No Unity of the Factions storyline.
 
Story 3: Changeling Saga
 
I wouldn’t really normally play this, but it’s a coherent storyline. Chrissy as the free ally, Abominations as the army, the Host as nemesis. Of course the Host is Chrissy. Fortunately, my other ally is Celly.
 
Option 4: The Ridiculous Game
 
Nemesis is the Anarchist. My allies are the Ecstatic Engineer, the Quirky Bard Duo, and the Klutzy Elementalist. This game will be nuts. I hope to gosh that that last line in the QBD’s description doesn’t mean the script calls for them to be offed no matter what.
 
Option 5: The Elements of Harmony
 
To have any shot at reuniting the Elements, of course, I’ll need the Mane Six, which means five tokens, which means three enemies. I’ll take NMM, Discord, and the Hunter. Toss in Spike. If we can manage to find the Elements of Harmony, I bet NMM and Discord get finished off before the final battle with the Hunter. That sounds like a plan. Let’s rock this joint.

Option 1: the Royals’ story
 
Celestia and Twilight. Nightmare Moon as nemesis; the Royal Guard as allies. (If you’re facing someone with control of the night, unsleeping allies are probably a really good idea.) Possible additional set: Discord, Pinkie, and Fluttershy. Fluttershy would hopefully be instrumental in ending Discord’s storyline and this unites three of the races with me.
 
Option Two (challenge): Bringing Peace to Equestria
 
Nightmare Moon and Discord as nemeses. Celestia as only ally. All four tokens on factions – all of Equestria united under our banner.
 
Dunno if I’d really want the Bull’s Eye, though. Unless the replacement process was fairly painless…

For Allies I am going with Celestia, and Applejack. AJ’s ability to grow plants will help keep Celly well fed. Will also take the Griffon Vanguard to help better protect myself and to help stay on decent terms with the Griffon Bandits. Lastly we take the Dragon Squire. Need a few more non-pony members to keep the Griffon from being too ticked off.
 
Unfortunately we are taking alot onto our plate thanks to going after two nemesis rather than one. The Nightmare is plaguing my dreams so we need to stop her. Little do we know that one of my allies is the Host.
 
Will also be allying with the undead. Celly wants to help them avenge their deaths. Besides who doesn’t want to have zombies and ghosts on your side?

Ah, I forgot about that. I’d have to go with Lyra/Bon-Bon then. I’d prefer Octavia/Vinyl, but Lyra would go nuts if she didn’t get to see a human.

Rarity can keep most of my party members’ neuroses under control, making sure that only SHE is manipulating Spike, while Spike can take the brunt of most attacks while Rarity mezzes, Twilight nukes, Chrysalis and I use shapeshifting to adapt to any surprises, and Gilda can teach me and Chrysalis how to use our different forms in combat more effectively.
