It’s so cute!
Makes sense really, I mean they’ve got a hydra living in the swamp next to the town on one side, a forest full of manticores and who-knows-what-else on the other side, and even more strange beasts and monsters from outside of Equestria, besides the fact that ponies tend to be cautious creatures by nature anyway.
Yeah, Ponyville ponies, at the least, are pretty much at least closet racists.
I think it’s just general xenophobia. With as many weird and dangerous creatures lurking around the corners of Equestria, it’s not surprising that ponies are paranoid about different species.
