@Masem
SaYS had Spike being mostly incompetent at tasks he’d been mostly competent at before, and a predictable storyline; while I can understand how people would dislike it for those reasons, I don’t think it’s fair to hold it up as the objective worst of the series. Personally, I’d go for “Games Ponies Play” as the weakest episode of the season, if not the entire series.
@RIG
I would hope that people in the fandom know which episodes are considered bad by the fandom even if they personally feel those are good episodes. (And I’m sure there are episodes that most feel are good that have its haters).
It is easier to compare starting from the point of mass agreement (eg recognizing that Spike at your Service is considered a weak episode by most) and going from there, since you don’t have to explain that baseline.

“Most of us know the line between being critical and being a jerk/killjoy”

>points mare do well, spike at your service and spike character in general discussions
changed that to “few of us…”

Most of us know the line between being critical and being a jerk/killjoy.
When something is really bad (eg Spike at your Service), you’ll know that for sure. This Spike micro is far from bad. It’s just a relatively predictable story (Which happens all the time in MLP) and Spike’s character is a bit off. It’s still lovely to look at and a fun read.
@RIG
If it was a really strong story, I’d likely praise that. I could be a jerk and spend hours picking it apart, but its a kids comic; I’m just highlighting things that could have been improved on. (And given Ted’s an apparently active fandom participant, hopefully advice to take to the next issue :)
I’d like to imagine this is how most species got started in Equestria. Someone’s just messing around in the kitchen or the garage or what not, and finds some magic to try and help out, and POOF new species.
Headcanonized.
OH GOD YES. CANT UNSEE
Which one?
The one where Candace became the queen of mars or the one where she became queen of the giant ants?
Anyway it was a cute micro. Nothing special, but it amuzed me enough.
We think alike

All of them:” Fahoo Fores Dahoo Dores”
Spike: “No! None of that. Shame on you”
“We are Brony”.
Like mother like son!
All hail Spike! All hail Spike!

because, most of the time, those “ critically analyze” become killjoys.
