To add, we tend to try to understand every possible thing because such knowledge can be used to accurately predict outcomes of similar actions in the future. I.E. Knowing that spirals in nature are always Fibonnaci numbers in the amount of spirals they have. As well, the Golden ratio is known.  
Natural Log aka e is seen in exponential growth and decay such as growth of bacteria cultures and radioactive decay.

Because we, as human beings, are curious. As such, we naturally end up to more darker conclusions before we consider other, lighter ones. It’s possible the tiara has no correlation to the show whatsoever.

with the second and fourth points being of a different strip of metal could mean they are not worthy of being held at the same standard, especially so seeing as it is the recessive strip. but height depicting compensation, an attempt at trying to depict equality. the third point rests as the highest most point and being of the dominant, which signifies importance. the first and fith points settle at the lowest points, but being on the dominant strip can be recognized as higher class than those of the second, recessive strip.  
now how that relates to her friends, we section off numbers to races. two earth, two pegasi, and one unicorn. one point at the highest and in turn the dominant. the third strip represents Rarity, the only unicorn of their group. the first and fifth points are Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy, as the image of the unicorn and pegasi combined is that of the image of an alicorn. they all belong on the dominant strip because of that. pinkie pie and applejack are the second and fourth points on the recessive strips, their heightened points representing compensation of status, but also perhaps a base that supports the entirety of the crown/group. but as they are on the recessive strip it represents second class citizenship.
