The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

I always Doctor Whooves/Hooves like the Doctor Who equivalent to Spider-Ham, and I think it’d be nice if BBC and Hasbro could work out a deal to make it “official” rather than Hasbro teeter between infringement and parody. And I’m not even that big of a fan.

As for who (heh) the character is, I actually have high hopes that it’s either Vinyl or Octavia. MAYYYBE Derpy, but I can see the fans going nutz when they reveal her to be “Ditzy Doo” as her official name.

On my own note… If the character designers decided she could be carried because it was a “cloud” of butterflies, I will kill every butterfly I ever see in protest.

Everyone interprets things differently. But my defining points are the Season 3 end and the characterization of:
Applejack - Obsessed with apple farming to the point of blind stubbornness, unnecessary stress, physical and mental fatigue, and physical injury.
Rarity - Obsessed with fashion to the point of risking friendships, insulting family, shirking familial duties, and absentmindedly using friends as mannequins.
Pinkie Pie - Beyond the cartoon insanity, obsessed with parties and fun to the point of an abrasive personality, risk of physical harm for a laugh, little to no restraint, and bouts of Dissociative Personality Disorder when denied.
Rainbow Dash - Obsession with speed and skill to the point of great risk of personal injury over and above what would be considered normal in personal training, and risking the safety of friends in test and as assistants.
Twilight Sparkle - The entire series opening was about her obsession with magic and magical history to the point of not caring for social interaction, and continues as a theme through the series.
Fluttershy - Obsession with surface creatures to the point of ignoring interaction with her own race, filling her house with more animals than Ponyville Elementary has students, and caring for them more than she cares for herself at times.

Fluttershy is a special case, though. It’s hard to classify her as her talent has not been fleshed out very evenly in the story. Even her cutie mark manifestation, falling from the clouds into an unusually dense swarm of butterflies and becoming interested in the “land below” expressing as butterflies, is a little hard to swallow in terms of coherent story. In the show, we see her feeding and caring for critters occasionally, but more often than not her characterization moments revolve solely around her low self-esteem, shyness, and occasional moments of assertiveness. If anything, in reference to the flow of the show, this is why I’d consider her a background Mane 6, thrown in as the shy archetype afterthought/race balance (no, I don’t think any of the mane 6 to be backgrounds, I hate the classification, I’m just using it as example of character gravity).

Personally, fanon of Derpy being obsessed with muffins is tame compared to the entire “Rarity with wings” incident. Or how about I use a single background pony as an in-show case in point for absurdity: Snowflake.

If you don’t like hive mind fanon, don’t subscribe to it. Be creative and make your own. But don’t come in and call something stupid without being ready to debate your reasons with that one person that’s always lurking around in fanbases looking for legitimate debate about the interaction between canon, meta, and total fanon.

You’re so right! It’s not like the ponies are painted to be manically obsessed with whatever triggered the manifestation of their cutie mark or anything. /sarcasm

It’s a central theme of the show, and fans picked up on it, whether purposefully or subconsciously, and ran with it. Personally, I’d love nothing more than one of the seasons dealing with this fact, culminating in the mane 6 shattering the bonds of the cutie mark “destinies” and granting equestrian existence true free will, while dealing with Pinkie throwing a party every half mile, Rarity making sure everypony has a proper dress for each party, etc.

I’m cautiously optimistic about this “background pony”, whoever it is, being a fun character; it’s just that I think it’s more likely to be Snowflake, Vinyl, or Derpy than Time Turner/Dr. (W)Hooves.

Also, I have to say it’s nice to see more jokes about “don’t believe her lies” than actual “don’t believe her lies”.
Mr. Horrible

Everybody’s just mad because no matter who it ends up being it’s going to invalidate a ton of headcanons, which is a apparently something that cannot be tolerated. Like when Cadance showed up and everyone got all pissy because it “broke” all their their made-up rules about alicorns.

But anyway fuck yeah Doctor Hooves. I would be so on board for this.
Pawny.

Background ponies should be left in the background, they already got a shitton of characters to flesh out.

Not that I dislike background ponies or anything, but I find it more amusing to make up your own stories for them then being handfed something generic and kidsfriendly.

Well, yeah that’s true. In most. Personally, I worked it into my story, cause I had a human parallel. I thought it would a humorous meeting. {That and I don’t play up her obsession. It’s more an interest, so it’s not mentioned much in the story. Instead I focus more on her as a character. (She seems like an excitable, nice, and sensitive mare.)}
