Same here. Solving everything with an essential “I Win” button is pretty boring.

Let Equestria succumb to a thorny doom, or put the Elements back in the tree where they can get them again if need be?

Seeing how (in the source link) the artist is complaining about them kinda getting rid of the “elements of harmony” here, I have to say, maybe it’s a good thing that the mane 6 aren’t going to rely on them anymore. (Or save ’em for an emergency, they can always go back to the tree, and get ’em if they need them that badly possibly.)
 
They always were a bit to “deus-ex-machina” anyways, and it would interesting to have them be less reliant on them, and solve problems other ways perhaps.
