Explanation: Primitive languages, like the one spoken by Australian Aboriginals for example, don’t have a word for any number besides 1. If a person has more than one thing he would not say he has 2 or 3 or 14, he would say he has “many”.
 
So, Equestrian language (what you think all these ponies were speaking English?) functions on the same way.

BP that PlotHole thinks has common sense, a different banner would not be their flag, so saying that she was working on a different banner means nothing when she is talking about the flag that is being shown to us.
 
Also, the Mane 6 are looking in a history book of the Crystal Ponies, meaning that the flag they are showing is most likely the flag that they flew when they were a large nation, but now they seem to be on the brink of extinction.

Wait, the flag is purple, white and blue, like Rarity, and she has a fondness for gems. Cadence’s magic aura is the same color as Rarity’s, too.
