You see,her alternation between shyness and anger irritates me to no end,it so pathetic I can’t even bear with her so much. Although I like “Hurricane Fluttershy” she does not make sense in these matters(the writers at least). As I wrote in Instagram,enough of the FlutterHulk/Bat.(no to mention Gala Fluttershy,discorded Fluttershy and IronShy) Unless she gets a better episode,“kill” her.

The irony of that, however, is that Fluttershy DOES share Rarity’s interests, if to a lesser degree. Back in Suited for Success, we saw just how much she actually knows about fashion (and it’s worth noting that her dress concept sketch looked nothing like the final product). She enjoys trips to the spa and reading fashion magazines, as we saw in Green Is Not Your Color. She and Rarity are really the only ones in the mane six who can converse about such things.
 
This is why I hate Putting Your Hoof Down, it just didn’t make a whole lot of sense. That, and I was also dreading the unavoidable eventuality of the writers deciding that making a sweet, innocent character act cruelly would be a funny joke, no matter how many times they used it.
 
I sure miss season one sometimes.

This sums it up pretty well. Fluttershy isn’t more internally angry or mean than any of the other cast members. The difference is that with the others, they’d open about their emotions and get to vent their feelings on a regular basis, and as a result there’s never much of a buildup. If AJ or Rainbow Dash is mad or whatever, they’ll be mad, let the emotion run it’s course and go back to normal.
 
Fluttershy, on the other hand, will still act just as nice as ever, refusing to actually act on those feelings. As a result, the feelings never actually go away; rather all of her frustration builds over time and then all comes out at once.
 
Her rant in “Putting Your Hoof Down” is a good example. Everyone takes it as an example of “what Fluttershy really thinks about her friends”, but I don’t think so. The rest of the cast often take potshots at each others’ fields of work; they don’t really mean much by it, but they make it clear that they don’t quite put the same amount of importance on things. Fluttershy constantly pretends to be into it to make her friends happy, when in reality she doesn’t see the point. Eventually her constant efforts to put up that front boil over and every negative comment she had about Rarity and Pinkie comes out all at once.

Fluttershy is a very strong flier, when she needs to be.
 
But if shyness is a crime, it’s time to overthrow somebody. More than a third of the world’s population can be described as such.
 
As for “mental instability”, better gas the whole cast then, just to be on the safe side.
