I may be (and am quite obviously wrong), with my “wing theory”. But given what has passed, and that only Twilight, and Rarity are the only Turrets to have horns…
 
It doesn’t seem like a huge logical leap to call those armed guns… Wings, though…

I think about the Pony Turrets who have wings, were the only ponies who were competitors in “The Running of the Leaves”, and they are: Competitor N°8 (Applejack), Competitor N°11 (Rainbow Dash) and Competitor N°42 (Twilight Sparkle)
