Actually, it’s Czech. The term was coined for the Defenestrations of Prague, in which Czechs tossed first Hussites and then, 200 years later, Catholics out the window.
Namely, that in some English-speaking country, being thrown out of a window was such a common occurrence that people had to come up with a specific word for it.
