Update: I’m reading this fanfic right now. The action sequences may be the best I’ve encountered in a pony fic to date.

Doesn’t have to be a vehicle, though. Or at least, not self-propelled ones. Alternatively, they could simply not care and opt to make vehicles that match the personalities. For example, a fighter jet that transforms into Rainbow Dash, or a limo that turns into Rarity.
 
I personally think a pairing would be better. Pick some Transformers and pair them up with an appropriate pony. For example, I could imagine Blaster transforming into Vinyl’s music desk and accompanying speakers. Someone like Jazz, what with his love of music and built-in speakers, would work well too.

On the other hand, there aren’t many vehicles you can justify in the setting. Certainly nothing motorized… with the possible exception of the SSCS6K.

I’d personally prefer vehicles that turned into ponies. I feel like there’s more toyettic potential there than doing the whole thing Beast Wars thing, since there’s only so many ways you can transform an equine into a humanoid.

I would say the key is to be both cute and sleek. =)

They either haven’t considered it (unlikely), or they aren’t sure how to go about it (somewhat more likely, I think).
 
Do you want to go Beast Wars style, or piloted vehicles like the Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck Transformers?

I’m honestly surprised Hasbro hasn’t tried something like this yet. 8|
