The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

@Background Pony #020A
Then again… Spike does act like a kid some of the time (eats a ton of ice cream and says it’s future Spike’s problem).

However, what you said is correct too; he does support Rarity when she’s going through her thing.

IT’S COMPLICATED! EVERYTHING IS COMPLICATED! HOORAY!

Well yeah, that was my point exactly.
Considering how slow dragons age, who’s to say that 100 years from now Spike won’t still look exactly the same as he does now? He’d still be a baby dragon, and yet if his lifestyle continues normally, he’d have the maturity and mental age of a 100-year old pony.
Would it still be wrong for him to fall in love then?

“they’re just too different in terms of maturity and age”

The interesting thing is, this part may be right…but in the opposite way you’re thinking.
Rarity’s the one crumbling and crying her heart out once the pony she likes doesn’t like her back…while Spike is the one calmly and silently supporting his loved one while she goes through another of these “phases”. So far, he’s been way more mature.

Well it’s one of mine too.

I joke about it because I like my ships like particles under quantum superposition: all states occur at the same time unless observed.

The fic I liked was Like Fine Wine. What’s SoME stand for?

@Elite stormtrooper “I personally think they are shipped just for the fact that spike said and I quote “I like rarity” ever since then”

On the contrary, I didn’t start shipping Sparity, until season 2. Of course, I’m referring to ‘Secret Of My Excess,’ which is what REALLY caused that ship to sail. There’s definitely a bond between Rarity and Spike, and in ‘Dragon Quest,’ she has shown that she can be quite protective of him. Also, like others said before me, their personalities do blend well together.

Not all fans are in agreement that there’s such a wide gulf in age between the Spike and the main cast. If Twilight was applying to start school, then she would only have been about five years old when she hatched Spike, and Rarity can’t be that much older. Think about it… how often do the Mane Six act with the maturity level of teenage girls rather than adult women?

I agree that Spike is too young for romantic love right now, but if the Trenderhoof episode is any indication, the Mane Six aren’t exactly old enough to be looking for “their forever romance” yet either.

@Itsthinking
Even then, ten years seems to me like too much of a gulf when one is in her early 20s and the other is a pre-teen. That’s why I could never like this ship, they’re just too different in terms of maturity and age.

As I’ve always said, it really doesn’t have anything solid against it.
We don’t know how old the Mane6 were when they got their cutiemarks (they looked very young), so considering Twilight’s age by then, Spike could very easily be a teenager.

That Spike still looks small or is reffered to as a baby dragon, means little once you consider that for all we really know about them, a dragon could be into his 50’s and still be considered a “baby dragon”. His personality at least, certainly isn’t that of a baby.

I can understand that. I just get really upset when people (not you, just people in general) use “The P Word” to describe this relationship and anyone who enjoys it when the people who enjoy it obviously wouldn’t be enjoying it if they saw it as the horrific “25 year old and 5 year old” scenario.
