That’s the reaction that I had when I saw it back in the day as well.
what in sans hell
Added.
I assume your logic on the matter is that with Magic accomplishing certain things, people would simply decide they didn’t need technology to cover those fields, while neglected fields would still see technological advancement.
Don’t forget about x-ray. (Though X-ray and heart monitor are 1895 and 1872 tech respectively, while ultrasonography is 1940s tech)
Anyway, presence of magic would obviously cause progress to slow down in some areas, and speed up in other areas.
Well they did show heavy construction vehicles and heart monitors. I think there was a jumbo-tron TV in a cranky photo, or maybe it was just neon lights.
To be fair, they haven’t really shown tech’ that advanced yet, so you really don’t have too much to complain about.
Trains and airships are not advanced technology. Those are industrial steam/air powered machines. Their arcade machines are Space Invaders tier at best, which also seems acceptable to me since they have basic electricity.
It’s when they start booking airline tickets on their computers over the internet and then catch a bullet train to the airport where they get on a commercial jet that there is a problem with the writing. The problem is consistency. It’s been established that the tech level is lower-industrial at best, with a few hiccups every now and then showing advanced modern technology. If you see advanced technology then it’s a problem the writer’s are having with being able to stick to the established tech level because it’s so much easier to write about things you are familiar with, like advanced technology. Take thge heavy construction machinery for example, those appeared because it would be much, much harder to both conceive of and then animate Ponies using low tech means to construct buildings.
Yet, ponies have skyscrapers, arcade game machines, trains, airships, can talk, and such, and that’s perfectly acceptable?
They have scitzo tech like the Zelda series, and such.
I think you commented on the wrong picture by accident.

Looks like the schizophrenic background pony gave us a visit.
Yeah, I’m not sure if all of the storybooks are canon. Some of ‘em are probably just corporate fanfiction. I do like how the IDW series adapted the Merponies.
Would prefer the G1 seaponies coming back instead though. After all, the G3 breezies are coming back apparently. It’s kinda nice to see something “old-school” MLP coming back in the show, even if G3 was quite cheesy. (But keep in mind, Pinkie Pie, Dashie, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle were from G3 originally to. Or at least in name/design kinda.)
I imagine many would want a “psycho Twilight” toy. :P (Even the kids, my niece loves that episode.)
Yeah, I saw the Chrysalis toy, but my point was if “A Canterlot Wedding” was as “pointlessly toy-etic” as some fans/critics say, we would’ve gotten her, and the Changelings back then. (Of course, that would’ve ruined the episodes unexpected twists. HUB/DHX did a good job hiding them in the commercials, and such.)
And honestly, it was still a good episode, probably my favorite 2-parter in the entire series.
That “transforming” idea isn’t bad, considering some girls/women like “Transformers” that I know.
Honestly, pony genetics are such a mess already that an alicorn foal could easily be born into any family. Heck, before the “Crystal Heart Spell” book, I always assumed that Cadance was naturally born as an alicorn. In fact, I still do; I decided to pretty much ignore that book unless the show canonizes it.
@Beau Skunky
I want a psycho Twilight toy. I probably wouldn’t buy it (I usually don’t buy any of the merch barring the official comics), I just want one to exist.
And we have a couple Chrysalis toys (though it took an awfully long time), but we don’t have any for the Changeling drones. Which is even weirder; how are you supposed to replicate that awesome battle without any changeling drones? …Well, you’d also need a crapton of duplicate toys of the mane six, but still.
…Ooh, idea. They could make Transformer-esque changeling toys that change into different characters.
