I’m sure you’re right. And for what it’s worth, I agree that the comic’s dumb, not to mention a wee bit hypocritical.
Eeeh. Might be.
Alright, I may have beefed it on this one. I’m sorry, you were merely collateral damage from my hateboner to this stinker of a comic. I’m sure those aren’t gasmaskangel’s sole criteria in what constitutes a good director, though.
>Pain and Gain was a brilliantly dark comedy, and it makes me think that really Mr. Baye just hates humanity.
Brilliantly dark, stemming from misanthropy. That was the indication. YOU’RE the idiot here, goon.
To criticize the comic itself: it claims to be a “satire” of “the current state of media affairs.” This is garbage. One bad director’s movies does not a “state of society and our culture” make, and repeating something somebody says in a mocking tone is not satire. I don’t think this qualifies as even that. If anything, it is worrying close to a straw man, and I’m sure the artist would agree with me when I say that if you need to make straw men to make jokes at the expense of Mr. Bay’s movies you are very bad at making jokes indeed.
It also claims to be “just a comedy” immediately after the claim to “satire,” which is simply not true. Typically speaking, comedy employs jokes, humorous situations, or things that make people laugh. This has neither, leaning exclusively on tired memes I can’t bear to repeat and on some kind of assumption that everybody hates Mr. Bay just as much as the artist does, as though that were possible among individuals who were not mentally ill. Even worse, while it manages to nail a grand number of stale memes in its ham-fisted attempt at anything approaching humor, it presents this all without a twinge of irony in the context of a lecture given by a red-and-black self-insert OC. Oh, and speaking of irnpy, MLP had a G1 as well. How’s that for “knowing the source material?” Artist, if you’re reading this: stop censoring yourself, it just looks juvenile. If you’re going to swear in a comic you should fucking do it, not try and pull some half assed asterisk’d shit. Otherwise it looks like something an eighth-grader would write.
Most egregious however, is still that this comic and its second part are entirely unrelated to ponies except by an idiotic parallel made conceivable only by the frothing madness of the artist. I wonder why he chose ponies to vent his rage, instead of some other random Hasbro merchandise such as Strawberry Shortcake. Surely it could not be related to the large exposure he could get from such a tenuous connection to the populous pony fanbase?
@Millennial Dan
He commented that Mr. Bay was a cynical and a misanthropist, but nowhere were these used as criteria for a good director. They were used merely as adjectives to describe one director in particular. Don’t be dense.
That is bad. And you should feel bad.
@gasmaskangel
Cynicism and misanthropy are pretty weird criteria for a “good director”.
That’s perfectly valid. In fact that’s the only way you can enjoy these movies; it can be dangerous trying to watch them without suspending your brain in pure alcohol.
@gasmaskangel
No, no. When you put a director who genuinely hates his intended audience at the helm of a big Hollywood production, you get Starship Troopers.
Only the Transformers movies.
You know, Michael Baye isn’t actually a bad director, I just think he’s an extremely cynical one. Pain and Gain was a brilliantly dark comedy, and it makes me think that really Mr. Baye just hates humanity.
