You are mistaken, it is not the spill but the so called over compensation itself that bothers me.
 
Applejack not letting Applebloom stay home alone is in her character, baby proofing the farm is not. Suddenly letting it all go after AB was almost eaten by a monster is even farther out there.
 
AJ acts really strange all episode. Really strange.

Yeah that was her excuse to come back and tell Applebloom she could not stay home alone, which is still an extreme over overreaction for her character.
 
What is missing is the excuse to baby proof the farm and check on Appleboom every four seconds. That is not in character when you can barely justify the soup spill reaction as in character.

Yes. This here proves my point. They can blow up have the town and get a stern glare, spill soup she baby proofs the farm.

Fact is Applejack was poorly written in this episode. Just admit it.

The spilled food was an excuse she used to validate the anxiety that made her go back in the first place. The reason wasn’t because Bloom spilled something or AJ didn’t spell out every step of spoon retrieval. It was that anxiety born of love. She couldn’t bear to leave Apple Bloom alone. (And given what the Crusaders have gotten up to, can you blame her?)

I don’t buy it. Not a bit. AJ has never been nutty on this scale for such an asinine reason as spilled food. Being turned around because Applebloom pushed a cart into the bushes is even stranger.
 
Those to episodes you mentioned just don’t hold up to how far AJ goes in this one for such a silly reason. Just such a silly reason.

We’ve seen her obsess before. Consider “Applebuck Season” or “Apple Family Reunion”. Applejack is always dedicated to doing what she feels is her duty, which often causes her to lose perspective. Especially when family is involved.

I don’t think I’ve ever really seen an episode where one of the mane 6 acts this out of character as Applejack does in this one. In fact she kinda stole Twilight’s obsessive character for this episode.
 
Like Applebloom’s hurt herself way worse than this (IE not at all), Applejack is usually more jaded about stuff like this. When I read the description I thought AB breaks her leg then Applejack just sorta gets a lil over protective.
 
Also the ultra fast turn around after the Chimera didn’t do it for me. Gotta say, this AJ portrayal kinda disappointed me. Applebloom’s part was fine though, classic Applebloom.

Look a little like child abuse.
