Apparently, some of the show staff do check out 4Chan. That’s how they found out about the “Derpy” animation error, and popularity back around when the show first started.

Spaghetti (In its original context “spaghetti spilling out of your pocket or vomiting it out”) is often used to symbolize failure to act normal and calm in a socially demanding/awkward moment.
It’s part ways also a reference to the song Lose Yourself where Eminem rap about being so nervous before a rap battle that her threw up his mom’s spaghetti on himself.
It seems to be very rare outside of 4chan, that’s why I don’t think the spaghetti in the episode wasn’t a nod to anything.
It’s kind of a 4chan thing. I don’t know how common it is elsewhere.

I’m pretty sure the spaghetti thing isn’t just to this fandom and this wasn’t really a nod to it.
