A show on TV survives mainly on advertizing dollars (like seemingly most content these days). If a show does not have a sizable (sizable defined by advertisers) audience then they won’t want their ads to run during the show. You know most execs used to (and many still don’t) not care about quality.
 
The really nice thing though is if after a show gets cancelled and then gets a big fan base advertisers take notice and the cycle of money begins again likely with new episodes if there is enough demand (from fans or advertisers).
 
However if they ignore their new audience well . . . imagine if MLP:FIM was still exactly the way it was back in season one. Would the fanbase really be this huge. You can’t deny season’s four finale kicked season one’s finale’s ass. And I’ll forgive you if you fail to notice how much our fanbase loves DBZ.

Those specific shows I mentioned? They were VERY much screwed over by the execs. Though in fairness, Firefly was a hard concept to sell to begin with, and I don’t think it became REALLY popular until AFTER it was cancelled (though it certainly had fans while it was airing).

…Yeah, you’re talking up your butt. Cancellation of shows has nothing to do with whether or not they “listen to their fans.” Sometimes they just get screwed over or they just end up having low ratings.

The first half of your comment is my point. All shows gradually change over time, but, if they don’t listen to their fans they eventually alienate them the fans lose interest and then it’s canceled.

Teen Titans got a spin-off that has little to do with the original. Dexter’s has been cancelled since forever. Family Guy and Futurama are widely regarded as shows that are way past their prime and should have stopped ages ago(Futurama did, but oh well).

Please don’t misunderstand what I’m about to say next. Even if the Brony fandom didn’t exist and it was only the originally targeted audience watching it. I would still love the s*** out of MLP. But the fandom, at least for me, has GREATLY enhanced the experience of the show.
 
Trust me I know it’s a horrible idea for fans to take control of any series. But what I’m saying is for small broadly excepted fannon to be applied. Like voices, the background stories of background characters, etc.
 
When the writers, animators, and voice actors do those things it lets us fans know they not only care about the show’s audience but are actually listening to and understanding them. Think about what happened to shows like Dexter’s Lab, Teen Titans, and MLP G’s 1, 2, and 3. Then think about how strong shows like Family Guy and Futurama are.

Nowack has all ready said she wont do the official voice for DJ-P0n3, and for the same reason Hasbro will never ask her.
 
I’d rather see a segregation between fan and official stuff. Drama happens anyway, when Derpy was going to be called Ditzy, when Vinyls eye colour was decided officially.  
Any time we fans come up with a thing, we can’t expect the writers to hold to that, because it limits them in what they can write. THEY are creating this, THEY are making this, THEY are voicing and animating this.

Ok I see your point but that’s exactly the reason why most fans would prefer her to do it or someone who sounds exactly like her. AAAND this is the same reason why Hasbro would want her to do it so they don’t piss us all off even more. This means that No Wacking would have a sliver of negotiating power (I said a sliver).

So we had Scratchy playing an important role in the film, and it was a nice surprise to me at least.  
No speaking role yet, but Octavia got a line. DID NOBRONY HEAR OCTY SPEAK!

Nowack has said several times that she wont do an official Vinyl Scratch because it means she wont be able to do the fan voice ever again (contract stuff). Also Hasbro are unlikely to choose her because she already has done so much fan stuff.
