this is becoming a Kill la Kill scenario  
they transfer their power to the main character to beat an evil foe  
the villain is defeated  
main character looses powers in the end
 
if that’s the case, then twilight might turn back into a unicorn, or worse, loose magic altogether and become an earth pony.  
hehehehehehe
