All these people being like “Dash can’t pay attention so she’s autistic or has Asperger’s or has ADD or ADHD” is what’s wrong with people now a days and why kids have really been struggling with the school system. Whatever happened to kids naturally have a lot of energy? And forcing them to slave away in a clearly dysfunctional and in many places corrupt education system for 7 hours a day is NOT helping. Now of course Dash’s not a kid but still; come on, people. Such an overly-medicated society. Kid gets into a fight; has anger issues or a mental disorder. Kid can’t pay attention? Has ADD. Fidgets or plays around with pens or pencils a lot? Has ADHD. Kids just have a lot of energy; stop trying to label every single part of the human psyche a medical condition.

Huh. Autism. It works but never thought about that this episode.

I related it to academic woes, which in cases studying for big ass exams with methods you’re not used to can be a real bitch, and exams like those can really destroy a person over. And true some people can’t focus in lectures, I personally prefer the small classes (granted Rainbow’s class was small as hell)

@Prof.NightJack
at what point did the person ever say that
they pointed out that the behaviour we’re looking at has nothing to do with autism, and therefore concluding autism from the behaviour we’re looking at is nonsense
(that, or they were differentiating between Asperger’s syndrome and autism, in which case, no comment)

Honestly, I posted it as a thread derailer.

Guys, Rainbow Dash is bouncing around, going in circles on a stool and y’all are discussing IRL mental illness. The forums exist for a reason.

Sounds to me like the “Throw stuff at them and hope something sticks” “Method” is like saying “Here, Bake a cake with flour, But without flour.” It’s like, What?

It’s also like this: I have a guitar that I like and it works for me - It’s as if I found the shoe size that fits me, But more than that: It doesn’t matter what the monetary value of it is, It has a value that a 1959 Gibson Les Paul just doesn’t have to me even though those guitars are (Or were) appraised to have value over $100,000; So what if the 59 Les Paul is sought after by a lot of people? If I was given one perhaps I’d play it a little bit for learning but I like this guitar, It’s cozy and resonant to me:

And the non-roller bridge saddles on the Mosrite Ventures II/Mark V are literally the most comfortable I’ve ever palm-muted on out of the guitars I’ve played - No jagged edges going into my hand!

RD’s might not be best for everyone, but the traditional method of “talking at the student and hoping something sticks” is just bad.
Solving problems and being given the resources to figure out how you’re supposed to do so works much better. This is coincidentally how every video game with an in-game manual or consultable list of keybindings end up working.

Personally, I was diagnosed with Aspergers back in the 1990s at a young age, just because some people like to self diagnose themselves with something they may or may not have doesn’t mean it’s some “fad disorder.”

Plus I didn’t make any sort of autism connection with Dash in this scene. It’s more like ADD, but more than that it reminded me a lot of how I felt in school. Like the episode’s moral stated, not everyone learns the same way, and sometimes traditional teaching methods just don’t work for some people.

So does this mean that a lot of schools are t̶e̶a̶c̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ attempting to teach people in completely inefficient ways? I know when my Mother tried teaching me when I was 9 or so I was once like “So when are we gonna be done?” because I was so bored.
