I know, but the forum discussion they’re having is over the whole fedora shaming thing, and some people (like the OP) have some pretty good points

But acting like anyone who wears a fedora is automatically a terrible person isn’t cool, though.

Now mind you, you’re right that there are people who fit the stereotype perfectly; otherwise, the stereotype wouldn’t exist.

The thing is, people make judgments on others based on appearance all the time. See a guy wearing a suit on the street and talking on a wireless earpiece? He’s probably some really busy white-collar businessman. See a woman wearing black lipstick and ear piercings? She’s a a goth. See a dude wearing a polo shirt with a popped collar? Probably some frat boy.

As for the hat itself, there’s really nothing inherently wrong with it. On the contrary, when worn with complementing attire a fedora can look quite good. The problem is that a lot of the people who wear fedoras do so without any sense of what makes the hat look good: instead they wear it with something like cargo shorts and a t-shirt, which makes it look mismatched and awkward. These people who have no sense of style or appearance are exactly the ones who end up falling into the typical “nice guy” syndrome. They believe that wearing a hat will give them an element of personality that they don’t have.

It’s perfectly okay to wear a fedora. If you put some effort into it, you can make it look good. The problem is that people often don’t put in that effort, they just slap the hat on their head and expect it to be classy, and the end result is that it looks kind of stupid.

The ungodly stupid part. The part that if you told them the word “gullible” was on the ceiling, they wouldn’t even bother looking up, they’d believe you without a single question or fact-check.

And then they’d blame every white CisHet Christian male on the planet for it and tell you to kill yourself for DARING to suggest or prove otherwise.

Even when it’s blatantly obvious that an Atheist/Non-Christian/Woman/PoC/LGBT+ did it.

Or even when nobody’s at fault at all.

No, but when a certain kind of chauvanistic, smug, whiny, self-entitled douche becomes known for wearing the, it becomes simple to associate the hat with that kind of person.

So yes, this whole fedora thing basically judges what a person’s entire personality is based solely off of what kind of hat they wear.

I’ve got some R-rated dialogue for you, but I’m going to keep it PG: you people are far, far worse than the people you’re attacking.

They’re only “bad” people ’cause they are easy to argue with. There is no good or evil, only life and death, and frankly modern medicine is life. So then what is religion? War, ignorance, and corrupt politicians is what.

Any point he could have had was ultimately lost by getting way too upset about a joke that makes fun of genuinely awful people.

This meme is stupid. Vomiting cats are funnier than this shit. I’m not saying it’s overused (which it is), I’m just saying it was never funny to begin with! giving this the glory of the meme tag is shameful!

I suppose rich and famous people are an exception, though I don’t think them getting away with it means everyone else should be allowed to.

Oh, right, fedoras…. Uh….

Well, I imagine since people still buy them hat companies will keep selling them regardless of reputation.

If you’re successful/famous/rich enough, you can get away with anything. And people do. A lot.

But this has nothing to do with fedoras. Speaking of which, I wonder why hat companies have been so slow to respond to the distaste for their product.

People who get away with being asshole because they’re popular?

No offense, but are you in high school right now? Because I can guarantee you that once you get out into the real world, this is absolutely not true. Once you have something real to lose (i.e. a job, a relationship, a family), you absolutely cannot afford to make an ass of yourself.

“Everyone would act like a complete asshole without consequence.”

Pretty sure there are people that do this and get away with it because they’re popular.

When people act without fear of people responding negatively to their reactions, you get to see how people really feel. Shocking I know, but everyone hides something. Only as anons can they completely reveal who they are.

Turns out that it’s a mixed bag, much like the rest of humanity.
