I was talking more about the character development lesson shift of the episode for Twi along the lines of

‘Twilight not wanting the attention of a princess or being treated as a celebrity for life’

to

‘these books that I INTENTIONALLY brought because they were the most worthless and taking up space, instead I’m going to keep them all even though that’s impossible’

mid-episode. As if the writers were afraid to resolve the fact even though they had to point it out in the beginning.

As for Princess duties, too random, too weak, and too late don’t you think? It was Rainbow Dash that showed the charisma to change people’s opinions.

Twilight did nothing but strawman. Nobody cares if RD made a two second mistake that could be fixed as quickly as RD asking Fluttershy to stay, making the trade null. Twilight’s duties as princess here were no less single-minded then when she ordered ‘find Celestia and Luna’ in the first episode of S4. That’s not character development.

In fact, with RD’s scene on the train as well, the episode really showcased Rainbow Dash’s ability to lead more then Twilight.

There’s more discussion about slavery/not-slavery than any sane person would ever require here: >>604797
Twisty

as a defense of this the law system in ponyville may be a bit rusty.

like if 1 of the parts in a trade doesnt agree then there is nothing that can be done according to the law.

its not like
  1. fluttershy was send to slavery, she was trading services for something she DIDINT speak out too at all.
  2. the other mare didint wanted to accept at first.

here’s my to random and idiotic bits.

If rainbow was content with the trade. Fluttershy does train animals, most likely for a fee. From what she said in the episode she could have “Charged” a huge amount of bits to train the Orthos. Since it’s a hard animal to train. She could in fact put that pony into major debt or even worse for her services. Mind you Rainbow got the book for the Orthos and fluttershy’s services.

End result Rainbow keeps the 1st edition and fluttershy a nice bag of bits.

Or what played out. Fluttershy could have spoken up and said how much it would cost to train the orthos.

Now, I’ll have to disagree about the “abandoning Twilight’s character development” in this episode. We actually saw some very important development here – this was the first time Twilight was actually ACTING like a Princess.

Princesses in the show are cast as teachers/mentors. Their job is to point out the episode’s “friendship problem” and help the ponies involved resolve it. Up until now, that’s been usually been Celestia’s job. (Luna had it in her two “dream walker” episodes, and Cadance’s turn was in “Three’s a Crowd”.)

In this episode, we see Twilight Sparkle step up to the role. And she did a pretty good job of it, just like Celestia in her “educational troll” mode.

Why make it public? She could of just called it null and void on the spot. Twilight making this farce public doesn’t make it very moral at all. All it does is make Twilight look immoral, incompatant and/or a troll.

And its not screwing over Fluttershy IF ITS NOT SLAVERY! The solution is as simple as those 4 sentences.
