Back when Celestia looked like she was going to be something other than a shallow cardboard cutout, I got the impression that she was bored with being a princess and leapt at every chance she could to act “normal” only to fail, so she instead lives vicariously through Twilight and her friends.

Looks like that was a bunch of bullshit though. Celestia’s just a talking head.
