My head hurts. D8
Well, they seem to be getting better, seeing as they didn’t ax the Dark Knight series or the Arkham series, both of which have significant female periferaries. Then again, those ARE Batman series, so…
It really is a spectacular case of institutional foot-shooting; Teen Titans was pulling two million viewers on every new episode in ‘06, and they barely even had any toy support for it. Bruce Timm says it’s been an open secret in animation circles for years that DC deliberately axes superhero projects that draw too much of a female following in any age group, no matter how popular or profitable those projects are. For frak’s sake, even in the worst hellholes of The South in the darkest days of Jim Crow, the cross-burnin’est motherhumpers in town would still take a Black man’s money; most of those restaurant sit-ins weren’t because Black people were being denied any service, just service at the White counter.
What is with DC? Seriously, this seems chaotically stupid.
Depends on who’s funding and televising it; Fox has a long track record of murdering good sci fi shows and movies, but if it was just weird it could survive on FX. DC’s official corporate animation policy appears to be “Bitches Ain’t Shit”, since their specific response to any cartoon pulling in a large unexpected female audience is to kill it. DXD would show it but forget to advertise or promote it ever at all, then blame low ratings for not renewing it. Cartoon Network might keep it going, but Season 2 might have a completely different creative team. The Hub is too suburban to touch it.
This of course means it would only last one season before it got shit-canned ala Firefly or Green Lantern: The Animated Series.
Seriously, I would watch the hell out of a series animated with a hyperstylized look like this.
lol “black doesn’t look right on humanized ponies”
Black doesn’t look right on humanized ponies. Also, zebras are blacks. However, race and species get overlapped in this fanbase. :P
