Огня пронзительная дрожь,
Есть день особый в жизни нашей,
Что с клятвой воинскою схож.
В полях притихших там и тут
Из-под гранитных обелисков
Солдаты павшие встают.
И в Старой Русе, и в Орле.
И что торжественней и горше
Того молчанья на земле?

Probably another American thinking they won the war.
…that was not what the phrase meant.
As in, it took a lot of really bad things (a civil war, forced collectivization, forced nationalization of property etc) to make the first Union. Trying to do it all over again would be really stupid.
You know that’s not what I meant. You don’t think I appreciate how much the Soviet people and soldiers sacrificed? The hell they endured at Stalingrad, Kursk, etc. so that their country, and in turn the world, wouldn’t fall into that horrible nazi regime?
Then it would have been better that Nazi Germany triumphed instead of the Soviets/Allies? Because that’s the purpose of this pic, the conmemoration of the Victory Day, the day Germany surrended to the allied forces (which is taken in great importance by the Russians since they were the one who took the greater casualties during WW2 and pushed the final offensive against Germany)
