I think the writers deciding to teach Discord a lesson may have been the right thing to do but it was still pretty damn cruel.
 
I wonder, did they do that so they can develop him into a more reformed character…or perhaps to make him into a much darker villain?

The brilliant acting by John de Lancie had me in tears at the end, I actually felt sympathetic towards Discord after…

@Dino-Mario I don’t think he will become evil again, as he’s finally, TRULY, come to understand just how important friendship and companionship means to him. He was utterly broken when Tirek turned on him, because, even if he wouldn’t admit it, he’d honestly thought of Tirek as a friend. Having someone he thought was a friend betray him like that made him realize just what he had put the others, especially Fluttershy through.
 
Discord finally learned how to empathize with others in this finale, to REALLY put himself in other’s shoes. He now understands just how precious friendship is, and he’s not going to risk that ever again.

Hopefully the rest of the mane six will stop feeling paranoic about Discord becoming evil again
