Sure her new pad is pretty sweet, but I’m sure Twilight will still miss her old library home, all the memories, her stuff, and books she had. Heck the episode “Trade Ya,” where she went off about all the good memories her books gave her, also kinda made it even sadder in a way, as somebody else pointed out. Said books were probably destroyed in the explosion.

In a way it also showed how dangerous/relentless Tirek was, and the loss also gave Twilight more push to confront him. (I admit I loved the over-the-top anime-ish battle they had.)

I kinda hope in S5 Twilight shows a li’l saddness for losing her old home, even for a brief moment. (There was actually a good short fanfic of that called “Memories don’t burn” somebody made recently.)

I agree, it was kinda clever Twilight finally started getting doubts about her new status near the end there, (especially in “Trade Ya”) and you have some other good thoughts there.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

As it turns out, the legends of Tirek’s strength were greatly exaggerated.

Or, pony magic ain’t what it used to be.

It’s also symbolic. Twilight couldn’t live there forever. She couldn’t be Princess Twilight, and remain Twilight the Librarian. It was one of the last major vestiges separating her old life from her new life as a leader. Things couldn’t remain the way that they were, and that was a major point the episode was trying to hit home.

And it feels all the more brilliant for how previous episodes HAVE appeared to downplay her new role. At first, we all believed it was DHX reacting to the negative feedback of Twilicorn, and trying to ramp down the change so nothing seemed different.

What a treat, to realize they were doing that on PURPOSE, so that Twilight could rightfully voice doubt over her worth as a princess in the finale, and finally realize her place in the grand design.

As a result, she’d shed her former self in a baptism by fire. She knows who she is and who she wants to be.

It’s so perfect, and ties so many disparate threads together, that I wouldn’t have minded if this was how the series ended. Twilight’s growth as a character, feels all but complete. It nearly brings tears to my eyes.
