Yeah, though it doesn’t have to be bigger, just the same size.  
I agree an Ursa Major was as big as it gets, but in the end it was just a bear.  
A dragon that size would be a much bigger threat all-round.
 
I agree though, that if he’s really not getting wings (which I hope its not the case) they do make him bigger and stronger than other dragons. And in such case, his magical hatching is as good an explanation as any.

Spike could make a great villain, after all he did eat the insparation of manifestion book.

Kind of hard to think of something, larger then an Ursa Major.
 
That thing was standard, if not more so, Kaiju size.

How about an Earth dragon (stronger and more durable than winged dragons) that, because of being hatched with an overdrive of the element of magic, was mutated and can grow much larger than normal, maybe as big/bigger than an Ursa Major.
 
That’s what Im hoping at least, so he can truly live up the name “Spikezilla”.

Or he’s just an Earth dragon, giving him far stronger strength, thicker skin, and an impressive digging ability.
 
We’ve seen in the show that he is an impressive digger, actually utilizing his body effectively to mine gems. ‘A Dog and a Pony show’
 
Granted this is speculation, but Spike’s adult body seemed to be much more bulky then the slim, flight given dragons, implying that Spike could take harder knocks then a normal dragon.
 
And his skull. While the winged dragons were longer and slender, more likely made to rip flesh from bone, Spike’s jaw was heavy set, similar to creatures like a Tyrannosaur, meaning Spike was made to crush bone and even stronger minerals.
 
Given how he would be spending most of his life on/under ground, this would come in handy. Not to mention that there are probably large prey items lurking about. {The Querray Eels and Hyrda need something substantial to live off of.}

I’d agree with you but only if he DOES grow much larger than other dragons.  
Either he gets wings like all the others, or lacks them but has something else in return (such as being much bigger and stronger). To do this, they could easily use the fact that his egg was exposed to Twilight’s unrestrained magic when he was hatched, making capable of growing many times the size of a normal dragon.

Heh, I won’t lie, after getting back into Godzilla lately, he’s a good example of why I personally don’t think that Spike suddenly needs to grow wings when he grows up. Why be a run of the mill dragon when he can be, oh I don’t know, GODZILLA?!
 
Of course, that’s just my opinion, nothing wrong with people wanting him to have wings and depicting him with such.
